i have not tried GC particularly, but the wii u itself on some friends's 4k tv.

i myself only own a 1080P which is enough for me, but i have to say that wii u games look sharper on a 4k tv.
other than sharper, i have not looked too deep to say 'it looks much better than a 1080p tv'

though i wish i did own a 4k tv instead !

it was only some 9months ago where my bro bought a TV for me and i was so mad that he did not get a 4k tv for me instead as he paid over 900$ for a LG 47' 1080 p with webos.

i mean even at that time there were 47' 4k tvs for probably less than 900$.
only the 55' 4k tvs cost about 1k here :/

oh well, i am satisfied with my 1080 tv, but if you have or are planning to get a 4k tv, then defintely do that.
4k tv will just be good future proof for you.

the wii u will not upscale the resolution,

it upscales Wii to whatever the Wii U resolution is set to, and since nintendon't or whatever runs in Wii mode, GC gets upscaled as well. It won't get uprendered, but upscaled, absolutely. Not to 4k, no, but 720p, 1080i/p it sure will upscale to those depending on how it's set.

Most 4k sets do upscale 1080p content very well.
Your WiiU will do the upscaling from 480p GCN games to 1080p, so it should look very similiar to a 1080p screen on a 4k set.

I have a buddy that has a 4k tv and a regular Wii. It looks exactly like it did on my 1080p screen. That's regular Wii though

Most likely you wanna use dolphin emulator if you want anything out of 4K for gamecube/wii, not a wii u. I suppose someone will ask How does gamecube/Wii look on the game pad? By the way, what is the screen resolution of the wii u gamepad?

^ Great suggestion. I have a PC that runs dolphin at 1080p and Wii games look fantastic on my flatscreen TV. I can't tell you how enjoyable Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are at 1080p!
