I honestly don't get how these became so popular but when you consider Pokémon Go at its time it was everywhere, in about a month this will wear itself out too.

I don't know who started the idea, but several students at the school I was at months ago decided to try and use them as a frisbee.

It's just plain ridiculous now.

I don't understand the appeal...at least, when I was in school, we used to do tricks by spinning pencils between our fingers. That took skill. These hunks of plastic look like...you're just flicking it...?

Time to get my old person cane and yell at kids on my year, I suppose.

I understand the appeal. I like flicking those spinning keyring things (to general annoyance), and fidget spinners began as just that but with better balance and smoother bearings. So yeah, I get how someone could get one to flick about when they need to, well, fidget. But I think they're going a bit overboard with all the ceramic tungsten carbide ball bearings and LEDs and chrome plating and all.

I was actually thinking about this recently, because they reminded me of Bayblade and spinning tops from the late 90s, early 2000s, and that this product's relevance is proof that the spinning toy thing never goes out of style as a whole. That being said, I'm probably lucky because I haven't been exposed to this other than internet pictures and I think a video of it in action. I have not seen it in a real world situation, the benefits of living under a rock.

Flippo's, Tamagochi, Pokemon cards.
All trends, died in the 90's, luckily.
Push scooters in the 00's.
Segway board things in the late 00's and now those spinners.
Those spinners will die soon as well.
Kids can't keep their attention at one thing for long.

UGH

These things are annoying and just a stupid trend. Luckily for me no one gets them out anymore at my school since one kid (who everyone hates for being an obnoxious and immature little shit) got one. :3

I have a lot of nervous tics and they help fight off those bad habits. I see a lot of people comparing them to yoyos and such, but to me they are in a totally different category, they are more like stress balls.

As mentioned, these are "supposed" to help people with anxiety/ADD/ADHD and similar disorders concentrate and focus more on what they're doing (since various studies have shown that "fidgeting" with things in general helps people stay on task, for whatever reason).

But then kids decided "hey these look annoying lets all get them and annoy people!" and lo and behold, a trend has started. It'll die off eventually, like every other trend ever.

Fidget spinners are like any other trend. It'll die of for sure, but until then, these stupid classmates of mine are going WAY overboard with the expensive high end ones, the LEDS, and metal, and the $10000 ones.

For stress relief I still prefer those squishy ball. This thing... spin? Am I supposed to hypnotize myself with it?
The trend is just everywhere, even where I am.
