Anyone who thinks English was awful is wrong. The only voice that was less than great was Zelda, for her inexplicably British Hyrulean accent. Still better than completely ununderstandable Japanese (and if you do understand, why didn't you just buy the Japanese version instead, weebs?)
I was lurking until I saw this argument. I learned english from scratch by playing Pokemon (which doesn't have Dutch support) or MMO's. I learned English by watching Shows, films like the Sopranos, Simpsons, South Park, Monty Python ect.
My level of English was higher than what was expected when I left high school and I barely had to study ever, simply because videogames and tv taught me. Now Japanese is more foreign, but Japanese voices at least do get the player accustomed to the sounds, grammar and maybe even some expressions. I may not understand it, but I can use it as a means to learn, as a bridge towards maybe a course.
Just because it may be ununderstandable to some (and maybe including me) doesn't mean I don't want it, or need it. Heck, I am planning to replay Zelda now in French with Dutch subtitles, because my French linguistic skills may be good, I feel they're slipping.
Please, to conclude: Don't underestimate the effects of being exposed to foreign languages, they do teach you over time. It's how young children learn their first language, their mother tongue. I cannot stress enough the educative value.
