Nintendo announces the New 2DS XL

Coming out of absolutely nowhere, Nintendo has revealed a new variation of the 2DS...the New 2DS XL! The system features a top screen that looks almost like a cell phone snapped onto the bottom of a 3DS. It has the extra processing power of the N3DS, amiibo functionality, and the C-stick nub, while, just like the original 2DS, omits the 3D feature of the handheld. The New 2DS XL will release on July 28, and retail for $149.99.

Me. buy one of these ?

To be honest, I think this will be a nice upgrade for me. My 3DS will be 6 years old next month, I think...

BUT REMEMBER SOMETHING.

This new system is from the past generation. So if anyone buys this, then expect Nintendo to announce a NEW generation Handheld system.

Also, does anyone knows about backwards compatibility with DS Games?
It will be compatible

It should be backwards compatible only games that use the GBA slot won't be.

Japan is getting it in two different colors, the other looks like an ugly Pumpkin IMO

I actually liked it, a lot. I prefer it over the black one, though both look good for me.

I'm actually very interested in this New 2DS XL,
it seems slimmer and lighter than the New 3DS,
has a very nice design, IMHO,
and seem to have better built-in quality.

Wait why would Nintendo announce a device more powerful than the New 3DS nvm misread your comment sorry. Though it really depends on the games, not just the power. If it's more powerful than the New 3DS XL, but only plays 3DS/New 3DS it's not that big of a deal.

I can see you point. I'm just getting bored with people begging for the next DS console without thinking about what that will do to their precious Switch. BTW a next DS would still being using a similar screen size so imagine a PS Vita or Wii U level DS with a small screen size. Those two alone and some proper programming would put the damn thing neck and neck with Switch. Not a pretty picture!

No why is it a dumb move
Because one of the reasons why the 2ds was created is that it didnt have hinges hence more "kid friendly". Not that this one has it pretty much contradicts its own purpose.

And let's not talk about timing. It's awful. They should focus on the Switch and the 3ds has like what 1/2 years at max before it dies...

Nintendo is shooting itself in the foot expecially with the successful sales of the Switch so far..

Ok but why though?

Eh, it will at least give people who don't want to pay $200 some action.

The original 2DS was tempting because the screen has no ugly scanlines due to the lack of 3D, but it was a bit too small. I guess I will wait for screen analysis and may get one if there isn't such a strong screen quality divergence like there is with the 3DS.

Well actually the whole kid friendly thing was more about the 3D

This is a little different in that it's for people that
1. Don't want 3D
2. Want to play New 3DS games
3. Cheaper price
4. Want a bigger system

This seems to be more for adults.

Okay, I kind of assumed at this point that anybody who wanted a 3DS either already had one, or was a kid planning on saving up for a used one for cheap.

When Nintendo did the Game Boy Micro, I could have sworn that it was set up to be put on a keychain, so it was even more portable and convenient than the full-size models. Not the best justification, but it's something. This one, I'm not seeing the point this late in the game. The only perk I can see to getting this would be if the SD card slot was placed somewhere convenient instead of having to remove the backplate. I actually damaged mine at some point, having to go through the whole process each time I wanted to access the MicroSD, just because it was so much faster to have it physically plugged into my PC instead of using the wireless feature.
