The firmware doesnt have anything to do with this.
Luma runs on ARM9 before the firmware even loads.

Define payloads not working. Are they not loading at all? Are they giving you a crash?

Did you launch Gateway mode on Sysnand AFTER updating to 11.3?
If so, I'm afraid that you completely lost A9LH...
But if you are still on 11.3 you can follow https://3ds.guide again and reobtain A9LH

You have to do everything from the start, so from this page: https://3ds.guide/homebrew-launcher-(soundhax)
If you want to be sure not to lose your saves, once you enter HBL you can use SVDT (I think is not included in the starter pack) to dump your saves in case something go wrong.
Also, until Gateway won't release an update that support 11.3/11.4, DON'T use it as you will lose A9LH again

Try to make a new thread next time, but what do you mean by uninstalling Luma?
Welcome to the temp, by the way!

Uninstall CFW
For support in English, ask for help at Nintendo Homebrew on Discord.
If you appreciate this guide, I accept Donations through PayPal or Bitcoin.

This will completely remove CFW from your device, including Boot9Strap and Luma3DS, for the purpose of restoring the device to stock.

Any unsigned (illegitimate) games will be rendered unusable and can be manually removed using the Data Management section of the System Settings. Use a save manager to backup any saves for these unsigned (illegitimate) games you care about.

This will not affect your NNID, any legitimately purchased games, or any saves for those legitimately purchased games.

Note that if you have any payload files other than GodMode9.firm in the /luma/payloads/ folder on your SD card, holding (Start) on boot will display a “chainloader menu” where you will have to use the D-Pad and the (A) button to select “GodMode9” for these instructions.

What you need
Instructions
Section I - Prep Work
  1. Power off your device
  2. Insert your SD card into your computer
  3. Copy GodMode9.firm from the GodMode9 .zip to the /luma/payloads/ folder on your SD card
  4. Copy the gm9 folder from the GodMode9 .zip to the root of your SD card
  5. Copy the uninstaller script corresponding to your device to the /gm9/scripts/ folder on your SD card
  6. Reinsert your SD card into your device
  7. Power on your device
Section II - Running Uninstall Script
  1. Launch GodMode9 by holding (Start) during boot
  2. If you are prompted to create an essential files backup, press (A) to do so, then press (A) to continue once it has completed
  3. Press (Home) to bring up the action menu
  4. Select “More…”
  5. Select “Scripts…”
  6. Select the uninstaller script
  7. When prompted, press (A) to proceed
  8. Press (A) to unlock SysNAND (lvl3) writing, then input the key combo given
  9. Press (A) to continue
  10. Press (A) to relock write permissions
  11. Press (Start) to reboot your device
All custom firmware has been removed from your device.

You can now remove any extra files and folders from the root of your SD card that are not the Nintendo 3DS or DCIM folders.

Brickway strikes again... but god forbid anyone talk bad about it, that just makes us haters.

@ultimatepump Well, start by giving us more information than "I did everything right and it broke!" What model 3DS do you have? Old? New? XL? What firmware version was it on? Did you have a9lh or b9s? Do you use gateway?

First, thanks for replying and not ripping me apart.

It is a 3DS XL. I was originally on 4.0.2 sysnand, I successfully installed Luma and played with it for a while and decided to go back to stock. So, I followed verbatim the instructions I posted above to uninstall Luma with the uninstall script. I got the warning of a possible brick and proceed by doing the key input sequence. Hit, start to reboot and now, the 2 screens stay black with no backlight at all. The blue light stays on, no wifi light. No sound. There is the amber charge light when plugged in. I let it sit for over 10 hours like this with just the blue light, not plugged in and still the same.

The brick message from godmode9 is just warning you that its possible. That shows up even if you're safe and everything is done right. The blue light staying on with black screens means a brick for sure, I'm sorry to say...

The fact that you were on 4.0.1 worries me.... I've never heard of installing Luma and b9s on a version that low. Let me ask you: what hack did you have installed? Menuhax, A9LH, or Boot9Strap? Basically, what did you use to load Luma?
