Hey all!
It's been like 1 year since I last touched my old 3ds xl and it's still currently running on 4.5 with gateway. Came back and I had a friend who told me about AL9H and that it "brick-proof" your 3ds. Very much tempted to switch to AL9H but I need a little help understanding what's going on.

I'm currently reading 3ds.guide, wonderful guide and very well written! I do have a little confusion though, hopefully someone could help me clear it up ><

1) My main goal is to move my gateway emunand to the cfw sysnand after I install A9LH to keep my save files and continue using my home-screen skin I bought from eShop. I read from somewhere something about gateway emunand not supporting A9LH.. does it mean I can't transfer my emunand?

2) I read the page on "Move EmuNAND" in the 3ds.guide, after that it will redirect the reader back to "Installing Arm9loader hax", which point do I continue from?

Honestly i just want to keep my save files and my eshop skin, if I can do that without gateway I'm fine as well. I still prefer having emunand though, it feels safer (am I right to say this?)

Thank you for your help! :)

Well, I wouldn't recommend moving your EmuNAND if you want to continue using your Brickway. Using it on a9lh sysNAND 11.3 and higher will strip you of a9lh since Brickway lacks firm protection. If you're on 11.4. You'll be stuck there without CFW and no way to use Gateway. Keep your EmuNAND if you want to use Brickway, that's the only safe option other than not using it at all. I would keep the sysNAND 11.3 or lower if you want to use Brickway.

You do know you can download all the official themes from all three regions, right? Don't ask, you can find them on that iso site. Also you can find your region's themes on freeShop, but it'll get complicated.

One of these should work as starting point. Not sure what your entry point is.

you can just install a9lh like usual and use a9lh like anyone else with gateway on ur emunand, thats what i do. keep your sysnand on 9.2 because a9lh can sometimes dissapear for some people.

Okay thank you all for the advice! :) I figured it's too complicated to try and get GW emuNAND into A9LH. Prefer a clean copy of A9LH so I just went ahead and ignored moving emunand XD..

Edit: Oh and erm, I know it's safe to update system while using a9lh. But I also heard people warning not to update to 11.4. Do they mean the actual nand or it includes cfw 11.4?

Gateway emunand doesn't support 11.3 and 11.4. You should stop using Gateway if you're using A9LH anyways. If you do, you don't need emuNAND for anything. Because with A9LH you can always recover from bricks since A9LH and it's payloads load before anything else, so emuNAND provides literally no extra protection whatsoever.

If you want to transition from GW to A9LH you can still follow Moving emuNAND part of the guide now. What this guide basically does is it has you backup your emuNAND, then flash that emuNAND onto your sysnand. The result is that your console's sysNAND has everything that your emuNAND had, and you no longer have emuNAND. You can do this at any point, but the reason you'd do it there in the guide is to save just some time so that you can flash your emuNAND onto sysNAND when you're on 2.1. Doesn't matter what step you're right now on though - even if you're finished - you can still do it. Just go back to that part of the guide and follow it.

11.4 is safe once CFW'd. And not just 11.4 - A9LH'd console can always be updated to latest FW. But when new FW comes out, you should update Luma3DS first with it's updater.
