Hacking Dealing with a dilemma (a.k.a. just getting a9lh from the guide)

I tried getting help in a few other threads but It's probably easier to sort this out in one thread and explain my situation to prevent further confusion.

Exactly a year ago I've wanted to install CFW on my 3DS to play Monster Hunter Cross. I used an old version of the guide hosted on github and I did almost every section except for installing arm9loaderhax, because I was anxious to play the game and thought I didn't need it.

Fast-forward to the present, the 11.3 system update came out and I installed it so I can play online on Monster Hunter Double Cross. However I didn't realize that Cakes ver. 138 wasn't compatible with 11.3 (I initially thought that the rainstorm outside corrupted the update). Now my emuNAND doesn't boot up and I don't even have a recent backup.

I've come to the conclusion that this is probably the best procedure to get my emuNAND back up and running normally
1.) Install arm9loaderhax
2.) Update my CakesFW to the latest version
I hope doing so might make my emuNAND boot normally and everything is back to normal.

The thing is, I've gotten really confused when people give me answers on how to install a9lh. They say that I must follow the whole guide to install it but that can't be right. I've done the whole thing a year ago so I just need to specifically install a9lh like I was supposed. I can't install Luma since I need to re-access my lost stuff on the emuNAND and I don't think following the guide from the start would be that safe for a 3DS that already has homebrew and all of that crap.

I'm just asking for how to install arm9loaderhax itself and that's it and also how to get everything back to normal too. I need helpful instructions and pointing to the main guide like it's the Bible is not going to help. This whole ordeal is having an effect on my mental health and I need to get it out of the way of my life before it takes its toll.

No. They are right. You have to follow the whole guide.

Why? Well, you see the old method of the guide involved upgrading or downgrading to 9.2, then setting up Menuhax and EmuNAND//RedNAND. And then the final parts included downgrading the RedNAND to 2.1, then flashing that to the SysNAND. Then installing A9LH, then flashing back to a higher FW with a NAND backup.

The new guide does away with a lot of that. It's more simple.

You're trying to "skip" parts that just are not there.

Stop trying to skip parts and follow the guide from scratch. There's also a section that flashes your EmuNAND to your SysNAND.

It's theoretically possible, but you have to have your console specific OTP, if not, the whole Guide. You also need to know what you're doing.

So it's actually safe to start the guide from the beginning on a 3DS that's already been through a similar process? If so then I'll make sure to do it.

Yes. It's safe. Start the guide from the beginning. Forget about Cakes and trying to use it to boot into your EmuNAND//RedNAND.

There's a section specific to transfer an EmuNAND to your SysNAND.

I have successfully installed A9LH+Luma by only using the last section of the guide, that was only because my 3DS was already on 9.2 and i had my OTP.bin already dumped.

In your case, it seems to be very complicated. You should just dump all your valuable savedata, cut your loses and start from the very beginning.

You shouldn't need to install A9LH to be able to launch your emuNAND/CFW again. You just need to switch to Luma3DS, which takes one minute to do.

How did you normally launch your CFW/emuNAND? To switch to Luma3DS without A9LH, you probably just need to replace a few files on your SD card.

I normally launch my emuNAND by going to the Homebrew menu (which I launch by holding down on the d-pad during bootup) and going into CakesFW and selecting "Boot CFW".

I'm assuming you're using menuhax to load the Homebrew Launcher at boot. If you want to skip A9LH for now, you can do the following:

1. Download the latest version of Luma3DS (6.6, as of this post): https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases/tag/v6.6
2. Copy arm9loaderhax.bin to the root of your SD card
3. In the hax folder, you will find a 3ds folder. In the 3ds folder, you will find a Luma3DS folder. Copy the Luma3DS folder into the 3ds folder that's already on your SD card.
4. In the Homebrew menu on bootup, launch Luma3DS instead of Cakes. That will launch Luma3DS CFW.

It was no trouble. If you haven't already done so, you should install A9LH when you have the time. A9LH is far more recommended than menuhax.
