Gaming Can anyone confirm Finland being the best eshop region to buy EU games?

Finland is in english and uses the euro.

The only other english eshop is UK but they use the british pound which ends up costing more after conversion to USD or CAN.

I've gone through many different regions and calculated the different currencies for conversion but found that the euro was the cheapest.

I would not mind using another language if I could find a cheaper currency but I could not.

Also Japan seems pretty cheap for the smaller games but the full titles with conversion are way more expensive it seems than my local eshop. I guess I will save that for titles which have 0% chance of being released in NA. And if there is a cart release I will just amazon that shit.

FYI nearly every game on the eShop is the same file across the globe, means you can buy a game with a discount on a for instance from Japan and play it in your own language.
On titles directly from Nintendo I'm 100% sure since I downloaded the Splatoon 2 Demo from the Japanese eShop and it's "playable" in german.
Also stated the developer of "SteamWorld Dig 2" btw on reddit that they only needs to send Nintendo one game for all regions.

Sorry I think you misunderstood me, I was talking about the eshop interface being english not the games.

And like I said the language of the eshop is not important if I could find a cheaper currency region than the euro.

I am just preparing for games that get an EU release only or early EU release before NA. Otherwise I can just purchase from NA.

I was looking at other regions the other day for Isaac as seems we're getting a rough deal over here in Europe with regards to release dates and looked at US eshop, at first it seemed the exchange rate favoured US untill checkout when suddenly Tax got added on making it more expensive, I'm used to GBP inc tax on prices, apparently not so in the US.

It wasn't a great deal more but I'm cheap, something to keep in mind when comparing exchange rates.

You can change your region to US states that have 0% tax. Alaska being one of them I think? I live in Canada in the province of British Columbia where the tax rate is 15%, but I set my region to the province of Alberta where they have the lowest tax rate of 8% which is still cheaper than converting to USD funds even with using a no tax state.

It was nice seeing that on the EU eshop, VAT being included in the price or TTC.

Have you tried looking at prices in euro? Not sure what the euro to gbp conversion is but it might be cheaper? I hear you guys are getting hosed because of that whole brexit fiasco... Our dollar was worth more than the us dollar a few years ago but then it crashed again. Those were good times!

Didn't check the other EU regions if I'm honest, I don't think brexit is having a massive impact quite yet, our politicians have been so busy putting off hitting the exit button the economy hasn't quite been effected yet. The next couple of years will be when we see the repercussions.

Digital purchases in the eshop for California charge no tax, but I don't know if it applies to the other states as well.

Edit: We also have a 7.5% sales tax. Digital purchases may vary from state to state, as an example from what I've seen in playstation updates the PSN store will now charge tax depending on your state (California still won't be charged, thankfully).

The referendum vote itself send the pound to a 30-year-low on the next day. It has been stable after that, though, so most things have adjusted themselves to that rate. I'm in the eurozone, so those first few weeks were a good time to order stuff from amazon.co.uk
