Hey.

So, i was doing the guide to get arm9loader on my New 3DS XL, and had the black screen issue. As a result, i went to the 9.2 ctrtransfer tutorial.

But i messed up...

"Go to “Ticket/Titlekey Options”, then select “Ticket Dump (SysNAND)”"

I accidentally pressed Titlekey Dump (SysNAND) instead. Once I realized my error it was already too late.

I went back and did Ticket Dump (SysNAND), and the process seemingly worked, as I was able to restart and got to the Home Menu.

Furthermore, once I got to this step...

"If you do not already have a NAND backup, Backup SysNAND to NANDmin.bin when prompted by pressing (A)"

When i was about to do it, i noticed there was an exclamation point (!) next to NANDmin.bin, so i did not do it.

As if that wasn't worrying enough, i had to turn off the 3DS due to a rl thing, after I booted back to the home menu, in which i assume is the 9.2 version now. Once i return I will do the update as it says.

Based on the above, are there any new issues I could run into?

What System version should appear once I go to settings, so i can make sure I will update correctly? And once i am done with that tutorial, to which part of the main tutorial should I come back for?

I am fully aware I posted on the Noob Paradise thread, but the people that are posting there right now don't seem to have a direct answer, plus i realised I forgot to ask a few extra things.
I am sorry for clustering these threads further.

It sounds like you're going to brick your 3DS if you keep misreading and/or skipping steps. You should also make sure you have enough time to do all of the guide in one sitting so you don't accidentally brick. For example, had you closed your lid and put your New 3DS into sleep mode after the 2.1 downgrade, you would have bricked.

If you think you can actually take this seriously, you can proceed with the guide where you left off.

Yes, i can do it. I understand it was a mistake of my part, but i have been able to do similar processes in the past. I do thank you for your concern and i will make sure to get it right.

As for closing, i already knew about that, thankfully. Having to turn off was a bit of an emergency thing, so i didn't have a choice.

All I really wish, however, is some confirmation that it would be safe to continue the process despite the Titlekey error, as well as some miscellaneous info to minimize risks.

Titlekeys are not a required backup, and you should be on 9.2 if you successfully completed the 9.2 ctrtransfer tutorial.

If you don't have a NAND backup, you should make one of those before continuing to the 2.1 ctrtransfer tutorial.

Very well. In that case, I will do the Ticket Dump again, this time doing the back up when i receive the prompt. Am I correct in thinking this would be a safer option, or am i to simply continue the update or do a different step before redoing the Ticket Dump?

Honestly, I'm having trouble understanding what you've done and what you haven't done, because the 9.2 ctrnand transfer isn't even part of the main guide anymore (unless you already installed A9LH). If I were you, I would go to this guide and start over. Or, tell me which step you're on specifically.

My apologies.

https://3ds.guide/installing-arm9loaderhax

You see, it was on Section IV, "Restoring the system"

"Open Hourglass9 from arm9loaderhax by holding (Start) on boot." -> "Go to “SysNAND Backup/Restore”" -> "Restore from NANDmin.bin"

Once i pressed Start to reboot, however, my 3DS stopped turning on altogether, with an error message, which i looked up and was the Black Screen error specified on that guide's step, which told me to begin the ctrtransfer 9.2 tutorial.

I did everything correctly up to this point, until the glitch caused me to change to 9.2, which is when i made that mistake.

I will be able to check it soon. Should it read 9.2 it means i will be fine to update, correct?
When you turn on the 3DS while holding the Select button, do the Luma3DS settings pop up? If so, and if you're on 9.2, it should be fine for you to update in the System Settings. If you don't have any of the aforementioned backups, then there's nothing for you to restore beforehand.

Very well, many thanks. So Luna and 9.2 on menu are the signs i require.

I believe this will be my final question

Once i am done with the Tickets session here

https://3ds.guide/9.2.0-ctrtransfer

Am i to continue on the main guide's Finalizing Set-Up section? I noticed the ctrtransfer covers FBI's injection.

Your patience and help are greatly appreciated.

When you're done with the tickets part of the guide, you will go back to Section V - Injecting FBI.

Huh, that's weird. Does the process remove the previous FBI injection somehow? I am actually quite curious on why i would need to inject FBI again, assuming you know the reason.

If you have FBI already, then you did the guide out of order. If you already have FBI, then you can move on to Section VI - Finalizing setup.

Huh, i am a little confused here now. As the 9.2 ctrtransfer tutorial includes a FBI Injection section before deleting Tickets, i had assumed it would remove the need to do Section V, but you said otherwise in the previous post, from my understanding. Was it a simple mistake?

You don't have any tickets to restore from before the 9.2 ctrnand transfer. Move on to the next step. Section VI - Finalizing setup.

But i do have several .tik files that begin with 00-, from the previous step. I deleted the ones that started with 01- and 02-, as seen here.

''Delete all .tik files in the /files9/ folder that do not start with “00-“''

While it does tell to skip this part, it says i should only do so if i do not have 00- files.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.

Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha

@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
