Because an RNG would be dumb. Nintendo has a database of all possible device IDs, and this is checked when connecting. This, and hundreds of people using the same ID, is why everyone using the "1234" patch got banned pretty fast, and Nintendo soon patched that workaround. What needs to be done is public knowledge, though. I and a few others have completely unbanned ourselves with information available on 3dbrew and with a couple, slight modifications to Luma. The only downside is that you do have to have a sacrificial system, and you lose everything tied to your old NNID. There's no way around this, and using public IDs is only going to get you banned again.

That was patched? News to me. Got a link on when/where they fixed it?

Not specifically, but the ID "1234" has been banned, so when using @Nanquitas's fork of Luma a user is faced with a new error code. Ultimately, the pull request he made is probably what tipped Nintendo off, but we'll never know.

So how exactly are people getting banned in the first place? I thought playing online with A9LH+Luma is safe = you can't get banned, because there's no way for Nintendo to tell that your console is hacked?

I just got my A9LH+Luma and now I'm worried I'll get banned for using online services like Pokebank or playing MHGen online <.<
We got banned for being stupid and playing online before release date (in my case I just forgot to switch conectivity off one time and I checked some of the features without noticing they were online).

Sacrificing a system or mirroring a system is a must to get unbanned, that's why some of us are hoping we can sacrifice a Wii because we don't have spare consoles.

Btw, if I'm not wrong, it's been 15 days already since the banwave, right? So we can asume it's permanent.

November 16th is when account.nintendo.net REQUIRED X-Nintendo-Device-Cert, but it didn't matter, literally anything worked for it. It was just required as an http header whereas it wasn't before (perhaps they just disabled the requirement for a while and just brought it back now? Talking if they had this sorted in something like 2013 but removed it in 2015 or something like that).
And then, November 21th is when account.nintendo.net started refusing invalid Device-Certs and returned "Unauthorized device" if an account was attempted to be created with a mismatching DeviceID/Device-Cert combo.

My theory is that they had implemented this at the beginning of the server software's creation but had either disabled it or forgot to enable it. It either took a while to initialize, or something else. If this was implemented just now, then what the fuck is wrong with Nintendo's network department?

Additionally, Nintendo banned a lot of DeviceIDs, along with 1234 and all the IDs created on it.
Either DeviceID bans take time to apply, or they are just in clusters. I had an experience once where my 2DS was banned from account.nintendo.net, but not nasc.nintendowifi.net. This might or might not matter, it was banned on the game servers the next morning.

Another thing is that @PF2M's Wii was banned after just one account that did nothing wrong, but we are using forms that fake the system version, disregards the CTR/CAFE NEX account, etc. So they might just be in clusters. Does this mean it's their decision, or do they issue DeviceID bans to higher-level admins, or..??

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Sacrificing a system or mirroring a system is a must to get unbanned, that's why some of us are hoping we can sacrifice a Wii because we don't have spare consoles.
This is why I hope I can get this working in some way. Most people have Wiis, and the people who care about the Wii Shop Channel either aren't going to be banned in the first place or have Wii Us, so this is a good way to go, though I'm lacking encouragement and I can't access my own Wii myself.

Aye, what I meant was that I don't know if anyone is working on it or the idea was scrapped.
The only people that have ARM9 binaries that can load these things into the ITCM don't have a Wii at their disposal for testing. You'll have to wait for someone to release an ITCM injector.

I dumped my NAND.bin with bootmii but there is no device.cert after doing the Dolphin emu process. There is a cert.sys tho.
How do I extract my device.cert?
Since the file was in my NAND, I thought it was there for everyone else's, but the device.cert was dumped for myself using some homebrew that I used.
Anyway, you could dump it using the first tutorial I linked, which WILL actually dump your device.cert.

These things are useless to you unless you have a way of injecting them into the ITCM of a banned 3DS.

So I heard you should not use this as no one knows the repercussions or what ever but how unsafe would it be to use this once just to make a new nnid and never use it again? This does allow you to unlink nnid and make a new one on a banned console(unbanned by using another lfcb), correct?
