Hacking Does a 128gb micro sd need preparation before installing a9lh?

Only Devmenu & BigBlueMenu freeze on accessing >100GB free space.
FBI should have no incompatibility like this.
ahhhhhhhh this is so why title manager and devmenu keep crashing on my new 128g micro sd card?
In hs app, or installed, both of them are crashing + reboot. (I didn't install any cia yet, so still have 128g free space (actually 119)).

I guess I will stay with my 64 gigs then. :/ Even though it's nearly full.

It takes me 6 seconds to boot from power-off to home menu with a 4GB card versus 15 seconds for a 128GB card. That's a significant increase in boot time, but it also is such a minor issue.

If you have an emunand, it can be tricky... Emunand tool wouldn't even see my D9-made GW emunand, so I used my emunand backup to make a new emunand on my 128GB card, then copied the files over to the 64K-formatted FAT32 partition manually from my 32GB SD card.

Formatting the card as 64K cluster size helps speed up the card immensely.

I'm using a 64gb Sandisk class 10 48mb/s read/write and I've upgraded to a 128gb Kingston class 10 80mb/s read/write. Surely it'll be faster? Or is this just not the case?

All I did with my 128gb micro sd card was format it with Decrypt9. Then, I just copied all of my files from my old card straight to it.

For people with crashing issues in DevMenu or BBM, a good solution is to put some files on it until it has below 100GB free. After the SD card starts to fill up from game installs, etc those files can then be deleted for more space as long as the free space is below 100GB.

Hi guys

I have a full stock o3ds on 9.9.0 with the original 2 gb sd card and I'll soon follow Plailect's guide to hack it. I plan on buying a 128 micro sd card (with an adapter of course).

Now, I have some questions. First of all, I know I have to format the card in FAT32 in order to use it with my 3ds. I know there are some issues with 128 gb sd cards and I read in this forum that I shouldn't install a9lh on a 128 gb card. So I read Plailect's FAQ and he doesn't mention anything about issues with high capacity cards, except the slowdowns (but they're not a problem for me).

It would be perfect if you could help me with this and tell me if/how I have to prepare the sd card before following the guide and also tell me your experiences with large sizes sd cards.

Thanks for reading,
Illusque
Just wanted to pop in and say I personally know someone I was helping to hack his 3ds, and we softbricked 5 systems IN A ROW trying to downgrade with a 128 GB card. Used the 4 GB card and it worked first try. N3DS XL. Now, this was quite a while ago, before a9lh had existed, but I still won't use large cards to this day after that. I also had someone brick while using safea9lhinstaller with a 128 GB card about 2 months back or so. He was using the OTP-less install method and there is quite a bit of controversy going around about how stable it is. Few reports of bricks here and there, but not many. After the brick he sent me all the files on his SD so I could check it, and he had everything set up correctly. My suspicion was that it was the card. He got a new one and used the stock 4 GB card in it, and it worked perfect.

TL;DR - I've had BAAAAD experience using 128 GB cards to hack in the past. Maybe its safer now, but I would STRONGLY recommend against it anyway.

I had problems with my 128gb card, it was slow and I couldn't get themes to work, all I did was save everything to my computer, format with GUI format to fat32 64k clusters and now everything is wonderful

Just wanna add that using a large card AFTER hacking the system has never given me problems besides a slightly slower boot time, and I use a 200 GB card in mine.

Same for me at the initial setup, except I formatted using EmuNand9.
It was very slow, even to open EmuNand9 a9lh payload... At least 10s for boot it, and 10s between each menus and settings.
I used Format SD (No EmuNand).

I a9lh'd my o3ds one week after creating this thread using a 128 GB card, and I never had any issue since then. So I guess it depends on which 3ds you have, or it's just random.
