Hello everyone ,

I've been playing Super Castlevania IV on CATSFC (from Stable build 1.3.6) , but the game slow downs certain points in stages , so I have a few questions concerning speeding up emulators on RetroArch ?

(I'm on N3DS)

- Does enabling rewind affect the FPS in any way ?

- What settings could I change to gain in FPS ?

For Super Castlevania IV (and other games ?) , blargSnes is faster , thanks @TimX24968B
for super castlevania IV i highly reccomend blargsnes over catsfc (unless you are on n3ds, then idk). I use blargsnes 3dsx for it and it works very well, only lagging in the intro.

I'll repost the best answers to original post to make this thread informative.

EDIT: nvm, i cant read. I would still reccomend trying the blargsnes .3dsx version. worked fine for me on O3ds.

I also use it for megaman X, same thing.

I don't think blargSnes perfomance varies from o3DS to n3DS (except from the usual power boost).

rip savestates and rewind

thats why the old days save system exists: passcode. I've never even used any type of rewind function.

Also, the only drawback i can think of would be hearing people say that the audio quality isnt as good, but I couldn't tell.

I think it's worth bearing in mind that no 3DS emulation solution will eradicate slow down that was originally present in the first place, and the SNES has more than its fair share of action games that can chug on original hardware.

And personally speaking, I find Snes_9x for O3DS makes blargsnes completely redundant (as awesome as that homebrew was for so long).

Disabling sound emulation speeds up the emulator by quite a bit I hear.
But I never do that, I need my sweet sounds.

don't know if anybody said anything about this, but... i haven't seen any fps drops from enabling rewind, though i would keep it off just in case as i think it makes games more likely to crash. Also, turning on v-synch for gpsp made the game run perfectly, no issues no flicker nothing. if you want to use a better emulator, use snes9x. Not the retroarch core. https://gbatemp.net/threads/snes9x-for-old-3ds.435568/ It's like blargsnes with more compatibility. If all else fails, and the frames are bad on snes9x, which admittedly doesnt use the n3ds to it's fullest, pocketsnes in my case has never dipped period playing any game besides star fox 1 and 2.
