How did you opt-out? Doesn't playing a game on their console class as using their services?
Inhave no idea? Like when you first connect to the Eshop, it tells you whether you can send info to them or not. But you can choose to opt out as well in options. Something like that.

Another thing to note is that I never, not even once, linked an NNID.
Idk if they can see NNID and check which console ID is presently or WAS linked and initiate the bannings. That could be plausible.

All I did was connect to the Festival Plaza online once and I was banned. It was accidentally before release and got an insta-ban so I'm pretty sure Nintendo only bans if they see a copy of Sun or Moon online without it being released in that region. Luckly I have a bricked o3DS that I can hopefully un-brick (Black screen with blue light, I have 9.2 NAND file and 10.3 NAND file) and swap the credentials so my N3DS is un-banned and my o3DS is banned.

So I don't want to cause a panic but a close friend got banned today when he connected this morning. He had the leaked moon release and beat the game never connecting online, the only time he connected online was on release. The only thing that comes to mind is Nintendo is checking for the "Journey Started" date and banning anyone who has a date pre 11/18. Now I know someone is thinking he probably connected by accident or he's lying but we are both in our 20's and are pretty much past the whole lying thing.

Ok me, Journey started 8/11. But its not an valide argument for Nintendo? People can change date and hours everytime on their 3ds.

Did the friend go into Festival Plaza at all? My memory is awful, I just went on it last night, introductions and everything. Anyways, I think when you setup camp there, it does an initial connection online. Did he check out Mystery Gift? That's another red flag pre-release. I don't know, that friend should contact Nintendo, just don't say they got a pirated copy, emphasize they never went online pre-release.

The only thing that occurs to me is that he accidentally used something that required online and didn't notice. Did he accidentally checked the Mistery Gift or Festival plaza in-game?
As far as i know, Festival Plaza doesn't connect when you do the tutorial, but if you leave and return, it will.

I don't know how certain were those rumors of making a "blanket ban" to all the .cias with Version 0 in its string, but now it seems like a possibility. If your friend is using the leaked version, tell him to preferably change that to the releases from freeShop/newer released .cias.

I don't know, that friend should contact Nintendo, just don't say they got a pirated copy, emphasize they never went online pre-release.

Weren't people saying that the ban comes from Nintendo of Japan now? I don't know if it'll be that easy to get unbanned, but i doubt it.

Activity log is the culprit I guess, or that dumb Version 0 number...

At least I hope the 022-0102 gets lifted after 15 days, I do not have a nice moveable.sed different of my LFCS. I got the money for a new CTR system, but I am not willing to give Ñintendo this pleasure since they lost the chance to get money from me, I would pay for Bank features, bur now fuck it, PKHeX FTW.

Observation: Iam as drunk as fucked, drunk a hole bottle of of Argentine wine,

That's because a cart dump converted to cia has a version of 0, where legit eShop versions have 16/32. I'm pretty sure they can easily tell if someone is playing a cart or eShop version, so anyone playing an eShop version with the version as 0, they know instantly that they're playing an illegal copy.
That's assuming the header identifies as either a cartridge or console. afaik, it doesnt. but the version string may be a possibility. the other possibilities is he used the online features without realizing it, or the game has spot pass and flagged him while the system was in sleepmode

To shed some light: I have all of my devices set 13 months behind the current date, so it's October 2015 for me. The V.0 knew it was 9 days until the November launch. There is more going on than we'd like to know.

I guess for future reference, you can prevent your o3ds/n3ds from sending system information via Spotpass by going to the following:

System Settings --> Internet Settings --> Spotpass --> Sending of System Information

There's a chance that the data from the Activity log was retrieved via Spotpass.

As someone said above. It could be your friend .cia version

Dangerous Version is 0
FreeShop / Legit version for Pokemon Moon is V16 and (i think) for Sun is V32
I still highly doubt it has anything to do with it. when you install a cia it uses the 3ds for its header info. I don't think there is way to tell if your using a cartridge or not.

I'm under the impression that this leak was done purposefully by nintendo to weed out hackers. the 022-2812 error hasn't been seen prior to the moon ban wave. and another member sent an email to nintendo support asking about the error and they replied that he had used a prerelease of sun/moon. that means the error is specifically for pirating pokemon sun/moon. I had also heard when the review copies were given out, they were instructed to not use online features.

i highly doubt its the date the adventure started, considering that legit 3ds users can set there date and time freely, meaning nintendo would be banning legit customers. Its most likely the version string

That's probably the equivalent of pulling out the cord on a microwave. I wasn't referring to numbtendo seeing your 'adenture start'-date, I literally mean, the game itself, knows what day (for real) you started. It's probably just a matter of numbtendo proving it.

Seems so. If you were to set your 3DS's time back to, say, 2012 and start Sun/Moon - the save start date would be set to 2012.

That seems a very stupid way to weed out players using the leaked copies.

I think it was more the server knew that the game wasn't ready yet and marked your account if you went online. I never went online with it and I'm unbanned (so far) which makes me hope my theory is correct after seeing a post debunking the V0 cia rumour (well, it could still be an issue but I don't think that's the cause of the initial ban else we'd all be banned just for using it, and obviously that wasn't the case if those who didn't go online slipped the net).

BUT why would they purposley release there own mainseries? thats basicaly financial suicide. PLUS its only detectable if they went online, which many of us smarter ones havent
