Downloaded the pre-compiled fw.img and compiled my own.
Amazingly, they matched, so I can confirm as a random person that it should be fine.

Of course, it still stands that if you don't know how to compile it, you probably shouldn't use it, but that's a separate issue.

As if I would know how to modify the fw.img to be malicious (I'm the one that uploaded the precompiled to that unnamed site)

Yeah, I saw the name matched and doubt there's any malice whatsoever.

Gee...I must have the only Wii U that keeps saying "SD Mount Failed" on a 64GB card...UGH!!

Get yourself minipartitiontool if on windows and just use it to set the partition to Primary. If it is not primary, the hax cant use it. Found out the hard way with 3ds. Easy fix though. If you use the tool I mentioned, everything on the card will stay intact. It doesnt require rewriting the entire partition.

I reckon it's friendly enough as eating a cake if you can get pre-compiled fw.img from "another source". Anyway, if you'd like to click a button to install everything it won't be happened.

I would assume so yes, that way the SD card can have the partition properly setup.
Although, you can just backup the NAND onto your PC, then restore it to the new SD card once it's ready.

I'm actually not too sure about that as I haven't tried restoring to another SD Card.
Make sure to backup your data from the SD card before trying! Feel free to tell us the results.

When you have finished the dump is it supposed to go back to the main menu and wipe your sd card from the wiiu/apps folder also my sd card says 29.2GB is that correct? are you suppose to put everything back on the card again and test to see rednand works.

Yeah, use the same fw.img file that you dumped redNAND with.

Alright, set up RedNAND and formatted SysNAND like a fool.
Aside from forgetting I ejected the SD card, then wondering why HBL wasn't loading (...) it seems fine.

Flashing red screens are spooky, but my NAND installed stuff launched just fine once I re-logged in to NNID.

As for formatting disconnected from internet, it demands a network connection before even letting you try formatting.
Unless we get a tool like TinyFormat (which would be pretty dangerous atm) it seems hard to avoid the unlink.

Ok for the moment i'm redumping all my backups from my redNAND SD.

I've zipped my firsts backups, and the mlc one seems corrupted when extracting ... great ... :/
