September 2026 Nintendo Direct recap, new Metroid and Kirby games on the way

The second of a two-part special, a more traditional Nintendo Direct is set to air today. Unlike the Zelda Direct the contents of this one is still relatively up in the air. What is known is that it'll be a 45 minute showcase putting a spotlight on the Switch 2 games launching later this year. Beyond that though, it's anybody's guess.

As with yesterday, I will be working throughout the presentation, so feel free to discuss it in my stead. When I return home later, I'll pop a summary of the big reveals here, and maybe even splinter off discussion with new threads if there's something particularly notable mixed in there. Let us know what you're hoping to see!

Literally ANYTHING that makes the Switch 2 something worth using - because so far, nuddin'.

All those "Switch 2 enhanced" ports? Yeah, don't care; the base Switch games are more than good enough, and not enough tends to be added to justify the new one. The only Switch 2 game I've got is Donkey Kong Bananza, and...one game isn't enough to make me want to use the console I got for Christmas 2025, y'know?
Hopefully Ocarina of Time is excellent; that should be a system-seller (or user, in my case). Maybe whatever the next new Kirby game is, might be a seller too?
The Star Fox remake is solid, and looks incredible. The Switch 2 version of Stray also looks phenomenal, much closer to the PC version.

Since my son is a big fan, Luigi's Mansion 4. Other than that, more entries that will make the Switch 2 worth buying as others have said, because right now, Donkey Kong Bananza, Star Fox and the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake are the only worthwhile titles.

I hope they annouced new Rune Factory game. Rune Factory 6 had been in develope for pretty long now, if they didn't cancel it then it should be annouced around this time.

Not really hoping or expecting much, but im betting we'll see another Capcom remaster, so PL vs AA most likely. I think most of these remasters were announced on a Direct.
EDIT: damnit.

Re2, 3 y 4 remake. Twilight Princess HD and Wind Waker HD. Mario Kart World expansion, New Pkm trailer, may a new Mario 3d entry, gta 6 announcement, Monster Hunter, Metroid 6, stellar blade, alien isolation 2,and why not, eternal darkness sequel, FZero gx sequel, . And what would I make me happy? A castlevania legacy of darkness remake. NS2 edition of Nier Automata, Bayonetta trilogy, batman arkham knight (required). Gta5 for ns and ns2 available now (post direct)

I'm hoping for:

A 3D Yoshi. Which would be for the first time :O
A new Wario game.
A new Mario game where Bowser gives up and there is a brand new final boss or something. You have to rescue Luigi, Peach and even Yoshi and play with them with their unique moves needed for some collectibles.

Super Mario Maker 3:
So where everything is playable, so also the Game Boy style levels etc. Even with some NES Zelda blocks!

Mario Kart World DLC including 200cc and a maximum of 4 couch players for online play.

SNES Remix
N64 Remix

Though very unlikely, but Nintendo ditching Sega Switch Online so they can make their expansion pack tier cheaper.

i kinda expect a whole series of n64 remakes with ultra realistic graphics to hyper target millennials. Most of the young kids and teens i know play stuff on their phone or pc (laptops etc not super gaming deluxe pcs) these days

since there on the remake kick how about Kid Icruas 3DS remake. also wishful thinking star tropics 1+2 with updated control's from 2 into star tropics 1 and heck throw in star tropics 3.

They seriously should have put Metroid as the last announcement though. Kirby had always been their tier 2 franchise at most and Kirby Air Raid didn't do so well either, I doubt there is any hype for an open world Kirby game right now.

These are a lot more enjoyable when you ignore leaks and rumors

Can’t be disappointed when you have nothing to expect!

That being said, the new Metroid and Kirby games look great. The updates and upgrades like Xenoblade and Pikmin are welcome *to me* as I didn’t own these games before. Definitely gonna snag some pre-owned copies before these drop. I was shocked when Star Fox launched without local split screen so I’m really happy to see it back.

Other than that we got a bunch of ports, which is nice depending on the game.

7/10

What a huge letdown. Again! I'm so tired of MercurySteamtroid twitch gameplay taking over the 2D entries in the franchise. I guess Kirby looks like it might be fun.

While I agree Metroid should’ve been the last one, speak for yourself, I’m hyped for the new Kirby

Air Ride was already niche and Sakurai basically said that himself, game was made for the fans, not the check.
