Hello, has someone here successfully ran windows 98 on a New 3DS XL? I've been wanting to do this badly but couldn't find the right img file.
-no they can not-
Thanks.

Well, ya do know that would be against the forum rules and is illegal.
Well it's abandonware now
Call it what you like. Still illegal.
Not anymore, go to winworldpc
Can you point me to where it says that it is now legal to download Windows 98?

There will be no sharing of Windows 98 installation files here. Microsoft may not sell this version of Windows anymore, but the fact is that it remains as copyrighted content so whether or not people consider it abandonware is completely non-relevant as far as GBAtemp's rules goes.

Alright, I didn't share it, but still it's not more like Microsoft sues TEMP, for ie MS BOB
The rules are there to protect GBAtemp by taking precautions against possible causes for legal actions rather than to risk things and hope that there won't be any future legal issues.Alright, I didn't share it, but still it's not more like Microsoft sues TEMP, for ie MS BOB
abandonware is an ethical stance, not a legal one. It would be interesting to see how the courts ruled on abandonware though. As far as I know, they've avoiding cases like that (if any were brought to their attention)Alright, I didn't share it, but still it's not more like Microsoft sues TEMP, for ie MS BOB

And how well does 98 run on new 3ds hardware anyway? I thought it was just 95 that someone was able to run via linux emulated dos or some such thing?

That being said, let's stay on topic. People may not share the installation files here, but providing instructions on how to make it work is still allowed.
Can someone share with me their .bat file and what I should rename the windows IMG file?
