As much as I hate it, I'm getting a flashcard.

What is all this stuff about updating the kernel of the card or whatever. Can't I just put ROMs on it and play?

What do I need to do on the 3DS side? I have cfw.

Put the kernel on it (or YSmenu) and put the roms on the micro sd card (If you want to use forwarders use Forwarder3DS).

Where would I get the kernel? In the thread below, and just put it on the root?

Get the official kernel from the website printed on the card label. You can add YSMenu later. You might need to update the kernel if you aren't running CFW.
