The zif connector that holds in the home button ribbon cable broke off on my new 3ds. I was able to solder magnet wire to the cable but I can't find which test point to solder the non-ground (don't know the proper name) wire to. I just need a picture of the correct test-point.

It's NOT a ZIF. If you pull on it AT ALL to lift it up like a ZIF you WILL BREAK IT.

That being said, you're probably going to have to lift the whole connector pad off and either replace it with the correct one (somewhere here in the forum, someone has the part number) or solder directly to the PCB with the ribbon cable. Unless you're an expert at soldering and working around PCB's in general (which you're not), I'd have someone else that does hardmod services fix it for you.

I have always heard them talked about as zif connectors but have known that you have to slide the cable out and can't lift it out.

I did end up removing the connector in its entirety and soldering to the pads on the pcb directly which worked.

I ended up soldering two magnet wires directly to the button and soldering them on to the pads for the connector. It isn't the prettiest but it works fine.

Would you mind reposting that picture? I'm considering doing the same thing and would love to see an example! Thanks!

I have a n3ds xl, and the home button and mic aren't working. I'm thinkin it's those crummy little connectors (Please, God, don't let it be the button/cable!). I've tried the paper method and a few other tips/tricks, but i'm thinking I might just have to pop off the connector and do some soldering...

I'd really only recommend this if you are out of other options and are really proficient in soldering as the pads are way smaller than you'd think

Need to necro this thread since I done goof
So I made mostake of lifting all 4 tabs, and broke one of the tabs while trying to fix.
One I broke is the bottom right tab, so now 3ds won't even turn on

All local cellphone repair won't fix.

Can anyone advise on repair connection on where to solder?
I have moderate skill on soldering, but maybe not skilled enough for something that small. Might be able to get a friend to help if I knew where to solder the exact points

Would be willing to send n3ds over for fix if you are reputable hard moder or if you can recomend me anyone
