It's more like a shop leaves their doors open and you go in with an atomic replicator. And their security cameras are crap and can only tell you an approximate location that they were in at a point in time. There's no way they can link the person with the download enough to be able to take any action. They left the door open - if they want to stop it all they have to do is shut the door. They can't go after anyone who downloads their stuff through their open door.
...hmm.

That's like saying if somebody tried to take something from you, and you weren't able to stop them, that it's your fault for not stopping them. Interesting. Because at the moment Nintendo certainly couldn't stop people from just taking whatever they like from eShop, so it's their fault. Not the fault of the people taking stuff. Also not the fault of the people who tell everybody that if you want to take Nintendo stuff right off of eShop, here's how to do it.

So essentially, people will do whatever they want, morals or ethics be damned, as long as they can get away with it. And blame the other party. Interesting. Anyways, I've said my stuff. I'm off to play stuff I've actually pirated. You know, stuff that someone else is distributing. I'm okay with that.

yeah, i guess it's in some system save, maybe the home menu's save or something?
back it up, delete it, see if the pop up message still appears - restore after experimenting :)

- but i don't care enough to test :D

over https specifically, or just http?
i mean, this isn't new, CIAngel isn't new, it's just doing the job of FunkyCIA/FunKeyCIA (and CDNto3DS before that) - but on the 3ds itself.
I meant https specifically

I wasn't addressing the morals, just the practicalities - either you or someone else said they thought people would start getting arrested or something. If you leave your car unlocked with the door open in a dark alley you wouldn't be too surprised if your stuff was stolen and the thief couldn't be caught. It's really the same here. Nintendo needs to remember to lock up and keep their car in their garage.

This is pretty much like going to Steam and buying everything you want for zero dollars.
I wouldn't be surprised if people actually get arrested for this. I think this might count as electronic fraud or theft, but I'm no expert in legal matters.
This is actually exactly like downloading from Steam directly without buying games, which people have been doing since ~2012 or so (Not sure if it's still possible, but I know it was at one point).

And no, this isn't fraud, nobody will be arrested for it, this is no different than downloading your games from that ISO site or a torrent tracker. The only difference is this method gives you guaranteed good game data, where third party sites have a tendency to do things like decrypt the game to avoid cryptofix issues.

There shouldnt be any issues updating a game directly from the home menu right? (where it ask u then u press Y ect..)

It spends Nintendo's bandwidth without giving them anything though.

what happens if i close the lid during a download? does it suspend, or continues downloading in the background?

I'm farily sure it pauses the download.

I haven't tried (I prefer to use ciangel for the updates just to be safe) but I think accepting directly instead of going to the eshop page to get the update should work. Otherwise I suppose there's a risk of having your dlc deleted if they're pirated.

probably user error, just adding in that, if canceling and item off cue during its install, and then hitting home button, it crashes. firmware cfw aureinand 11.0.3-u. just normal error has occurred, system will now restart message.

You could download every game from the CDN and only cost Nintendo pennies. Companies that deal in downloads like that don't pay what consumers do for bandwidth.

But they do pay for the infrastructure.

If 1000 paying customers uses the services and 1000 non paying customers also doing it the bandwidth and processing power needs to be able to handle 2000 people. So, in that scenario the cost will double but only half is paying. I'm not debating right vs wrong in this matter but someone pays for the services. In the end, it's the customers.

Keep in mind that b/g/n connections are inherently slow. Unfortunately, the 3DS doesn't support a/n connections. If it did, it'd be much faster network wise. So, it doesn't really matter what kind of connection you have, the 3DS is gonna be limited.

I know, I only wrote it because my speed is not the bottleneck here.

Don't do that yet. It will suspend the download I believe, but won't resume it properly and will likely fail. It's possible that it resumes it and installs fine (it has happened), but it's a big risk.

I feel like this thread is full of people who think more people hack their 3DS than don't. Yes, many people here do pirate directly off the CDN, but the number of people who do is likely a tiny fraction of the actual user's of the 3DS. It's safe to say less than 20% of people who own a 3DS hack, and even less than that don't buy games anymore. Nintendo isn't hurting.

Less than 20% of 3DS owners hack their device? That's very generous. I'd say not even 0,1% of 3DS owners hack or use homebrew.

After all, there were 60 million 3DS' sold by now - even my figure would mean 60.000 hackers, which is probably still way too much.

Downloads on the latest version of CIAngel and FreeShop combined is ~20,000 (Yeah, there will be some overlap there, but I'd still say probably 15,000 people using atleast one of these two apps). So I wouldn't consider 60,000+ hacked consoles to be all that crazy.
