I've been following this guide https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-1-(Homebrew) and everything was going well until I tried to get into the browser. I made the mistake of opening the browser with the Internet connected so I tried to do the date trick and set the date and time to January 1st 2000 with 00:00 minutes. That did nothing for me. I tried to scan the QR code and I still couldn't activate it. Am I doing something wrong? I know you're able to bypass the update nag on the N3DS since it's faster, but I didn't realize it would be this hard. Should I format my 3DS again and start over?

Do you have access to other hax entrypoints?
What firmware is your 3DS on?
Did you 1. Go into the browser and IMMEDIATELY go into browser settings and "Initialize Save-Data"?

Yeah the date trick works only for O3DS I think.

But you have another trick in the N3DS only. Speed. Try to get in the browser as fast as you can during boot. Chances are you can get into it. I am not kidding.
No QR, just get into the browser real, real quick.
Configure the page as favorite or input the url and exit cleanly (home menu button). Then enter quickly again. It should load browserhax and let you through.
It can be a pain to nail the speed, so be patient.

I need more info in your system to know what are you trying. System version and things.

Whoops, sorry about that. I thought I posted it in the OP but apparently I didn't. My system version is 9.9, and I have a Hyrule Gold edition 3DS.

I have Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon but I read that it's a secondary hack so I can't use that one. Sadly, browserhax is all I have.

This might seem dumb but where in the Internet browser do I go in order to clear save data? I know I go to settings but I don't see it when I open the browser.

I don't really believe you need to clear it. Just do it if you get too frustrated. It's in the browser options.

Okay, if I don't need to clear it, then how do I access browserhax with the update nag getting in the way?

We just tell you twice, but I'll tell you one more time, with extensive explaining:

1. Power on the system.
2. Configure internet connection.
3. In the home menu, memorize where the browser icon is.
4. Power off the system.
5. Power on the system.
6. As fast as you can, enter the browser.
7. If you got into the browser without the nag go to 8, if you got the nag go to 4.
8. Put the browserhax address as fast as you can and let it do the job.
9. If all the files were correctly placed you should be in the homebrew launcher here.
10. Install menuhax.
11. ???????
12. Profit! (Downgrade!)

As you see is a matter of speed.

Did you update to 9.9 with a cart?
When you get the browser nag, does it have a black background or can you see the browser in the background? If it has a black background, that probably means you have a stubbed browser from a cart update, so none of this will work.
The easiest way to access browserhax on n3DS is to load the exploit QR code with the wifi off, wait for it to tell you to turn on wifi, then exit the browser. This saves the browserhax page as the default. Turn wifi back on and load the browser normally and it should load the exploit. If you don't have tubehax DNS or cbvc.cdn.nintendo.net blocked in some other way then definitely block that URL first as it will make it easier.

Bleh, GBATemp.

You do need to initialize savedata if you want to use the January 1, 2000 bypass, and it does work on New 3DS.

As of February 24, 2016, the browser-version-check requires that the installed Old3DS browser be on >=v10.6. With New3DS, it only has to be on >=v10.2 currently. To bypass this requirement on Old3DS/New3DS(this bypass is only usable prior to 10.7.0-32 since it's fixed with 10.7.0-32), you can do the following(if you want to know how this works see here):
  1. Goto System Settings. Then change the datetime to January 1, 2000, 00:00.
  2. Use the browser 'Initialize savedata' option, before any page gets loaded triggering the browser-version message.
  3. Continue to use browserhax as normal.
  4. Note that you must not press the HOME button to return from the browser normally, otherwise you will have to reinitialize the savedata again. Once the datetime reaches January 2, you will have to repeat these steps if you want to continue using this bypass.
You can initialize savedata by hitting the "burger" (three horizontal lines) in the bottom right of the browser, scrolling down on this menu to Settings at the bottom, then scrolling down to "Reset Save Data" (precise wording will vary depending on your language setting, it's the one below "Delete Cookies").

I was in the same situation as you, got the browser nag on my 3ds, thought I was screwed. Just open the browser as soon the system come up and access the browser hack. Its not even that fast, I have never failed to get into the browser with this trick. No need to go through complicated setup.
