I hate to admit it, but its true. They focus on the 3ds and NX now.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

The Wii U hacking community is rather small, because its only at the beginning atm. The 3ds hacking community on the other hand is much bigger, only because it has become so much easier to softmod the 3ds because of easy access exploits (Browserhax)
The 3ds is pretty upidy on the patches, but we have cart solutions so its something they keep on top of more it seems, But they likely dont care about all 20 of us that own a wii u to get their top guys on it XD

The eventually stopped caring and moved on but it's hurting them to keep pirates run wild. If I were them, I would definitely get rid of those two last exploits (userland and kernel) :P
Why would they do that? When Nintendo has like millions of unsold Wii U's sitting in a warehouse and are not manufacturing anymore.
They need to figure out a way to sell their old stock of Wii U before NX comes out.
It's only in Nintendo's best interest for the Wii U to be fully hacked, so they can sell more hardware.

It's not like Nintendo is racking in the dough on royalty fees from third party devs, since they have no third party support. They need to sell more Wii U's, not more software to 20 people who own Wii Us.

Piracy is a good thing for Nintendo at this junction in their console's life.

My Wii U isnt softmodded yet, because my gamepad screen broke xD but fortunatly i changed wifi routers at the time it broke, so my wii u isn't connected to the Internet so it won't update. I'm likely going to hack it when I get the time to fix the screen

Console makers rarely make money on the consoles themselves (the original Wii is the only system I can remember where a company made money on the console from the beginning of its lifespan). Consoles are typically delivery vehicles for software where the real money is made. Sony very likely took a huge loss on the PSP due to the system getting hacked so completely early in its lifespan, causing developers to leave the system in droves.
Sony made money off of the PSP2000 and 3000 units. Console manufacturers rarely ever keep loss leaders on console past the first SKU of the manufacturing process. Also PSP had a very long lifespan and a massive userbase, which kept third party developers attached to the console long after its death. In fact there are still PSP games that get released in Japan to this day.

Once they take the initial loss on the first batch of consoles, they lower production cost and start to sell consoles at a profit. Plus the days of consoles being sold at an loss ended with the Wii, since then all consoles have been sold at cost or at a profit, which is why most consoles are so damn weak nowadays.

Plus. Nintendo already lost the console war this gen, they have little to no user base to sell first party games to, and have zero third party support to collect royalty fees on games sales.

They need to cut their losses short, by getting rid of every Wii U in their inventory now, before the NX comes out. Each day that passes that a Wii U is not sold is a day when the hardware depreciates in value, and Nintendo cannot take a loss on all that hardware that must sold at a loss at some point in time.

Its in Nintendo's best interest to sell as many Wii U's as possible now before they depreciate in value any more.

Last I checked WiiU sales are still terrible.
globally, youre right. my mistake, i was looking change in sales for japan in the last weeks. but i promise, here in a couple more weeks when the sales increase globally ill say i told you so.

Do you guys not realize that 99% of the people that own a Wii U don't care about a kernel exploit. I would guess that maybe 10% of users know about it, but would never do it because of what is involved.

We're not talking about people who own Wii U's here. We're talking people don't own Wii U's suddenly deciding to buy one because they heard that games are now free.

Who cares about the people who own Wii U's already. The problem is nobody wants to buy these systems to begin with which is why Nintendo is releasing the NX early and cutting this gen life span by half.

Nintendo needs to figure out how to sell more Wii Us to all the people who don't want one.

Free games is a very good incentive for most to buy a system.

Optimism is fun and all. However, the sales won't skyrocket because of hacks. I can assure you that.

What about the 3DS? 10.7 exploits never got patched

VVVVV got pulled from the eshop, SmashHax got patched. Ninjahax cannot be patched, they've tried but failed. And ocarina of time well..people speculate they don't even wanna patch that since they released the platinum version with the exploit still working.

Nintendo has bigger problems to worry about at the moment, like not having anything ready for E3 except Zelda and having nothing this holiday season with NX pushed back to March next year.

They probably had no idea what this exploit was and have to go through getting people to patch and test it internally so they don't accidentally introduce an even bigger hole from a haphazard fix.

Yeah I dunno about WiiU but there hasn't been a 3ds update in ages.
They either don't care about 3ds and Wii U anymore, or are focusing all their resources on the NX.
3ds update 10.7 was just released less than 4 months ago. Patching the a9lh exploit is going to take them some time to make sure we can never do that again. Nintendo isn't like Sony or Microsoft with constant updates. They take their time to actually secure their system with each update (until a new exploit is found).

Yeah so secure that their systems always get hacked first. I can see how taking their time really helped them with Wii, 3DS, Wii U, all super secure systems. lol

That is the exact opposite of the truth. I'd spend the next 15 minutes gathering the sources to support my claim per usual, but this is such a radical statement it literally doesnt take more then common sense or a google search to know this is wrong.

lol. If you're gonna talk smack, at least back it up a little. It's well known that consoles themselves rarely make money. Especially early in their lifecycle. Or was it the psp stuff that you take umbrage with?

Here's some quick google-fu for the current gen stuff:

You say it's "easy" and yet we've literally had hacks that just require you to stick your SD card into a normal Wii and click on the SD icon on the home menu. I'd say this exploit is moderate difficulty for the technologically challenged.

When we get to Letterbomb levels of hacks for Wii U I'd be willing to say it's "easy".

If you played a little bit with PS vita you'll know this is a pace of cake

Nintendo is just waiting on a boost in hardware sales due to piracy being allowed, then they'll promptly update it.
You think the original Wii would have sold as well without soft mods? Hell I bought 3 Wiis for the sake of soft modding.
