My Japanese New 3DS (non XL) charges for a long time. I'm using an American charger. Is it something to do with my charger, which charges an American XL regularly?
UPDATE/EDIT: This time I think it took like 4 hours to charge. I'll do a proper time tomorrow.

All of the chargers are identical on the DC (3DS) side.

You might just have an old, worn-out battery that isn't charging properly.

That's strange since it was new in box. I guess it's possible since it's a 2014 model and came on 8.1.0-0J which I believe was launch firmware. I literally got it two or three days ago.

Li-Ion batteries don't particularly like sitting on the shelves for extended periods of time.

Try using a new battery if you can get one. (New 3DS non-XL uses KTR-003, which is specific to that model.) All 3DS batteries are available on http://store.nintendo.com/ for $15, plus shipping.

Yeah it looks like it's worn out. It's down to 75% after installing a 1.3 GB cia and one that's maybe 800 MB on the lowest brightness. Do you know of any online stores where I might be able to find an extended battery? I know Nintendo sells standard replacements.

Unless you spend a lot of money on a Mugen extended battery, all the other extended batteries last less than the official Nintendo battery.
