I have a Aurei Sysnand 10.7 now with a9lh. (n3DS XL)

I know 2 ways of running out-of-region game:

a. FreeMultiPatcher: it seems like running a FreeMultiPatcher cia before running any out-of-region game. And I must run that cia on each restart and then get a new gift cia (out-of-region) game. Am I right? I have not tried it yet.

b. patch cia to be region-free before installing cia: someone recommends 3DS Simple CIA Converter, which converts 3ds to cia and cia can be region-free. However, it seems rather inconvenient if I already have a cia file instead of a 3ds file. Maybe I can go cia->3ds->cia way but it freaks me out.

Plailect told me to try "Shadowtrance's fork of BootNTR to enable things like region free, cheats, and CPU overclocking New 3DS for higher frame rates". I checked Shadowtrance's github and it seems to be a single CIA, but I haven't found any more introduction with picture. I just have my sysnand done, so I am afraid of screwing it up, though I understand I can recover it with a9lh.

So anyone know which way is best for me? or could someone introduce bootntr for me? Thank you very much.

You can install a custom Home Menu CIA that has region checks patched out. There's some info on it here, or you can just get a pre-made CIA file from that ISO site. I have my home menu patched using that and I've come across no issues so far, and can run out of region CIA files, and out of region carts without problem ^^

Thank you. I'll check it out. Is it affected by future sysnand update, like I need patch it again after every system update?

If the home menu is updated, yeah. But I'd still say it's more convenient than running NTR or FreeMultiPatcher whenever you turn on your system.

Download BootNTR, install the cia (I use auto-exit version else you need to manually exit bootntr). Place the .bin at the root of your sdcard. Then take the 10.2 bootntr firm found in FIRM.7z, it's on aureinands github and replace your current firmware.bin in your aurei folder. Start BootNTR and you should see your out of region cias appear.

thank your for your guide. I find it a complex way and I don't know if the replacement of old version firmware.bin would bring other problems or not. So I'll skip this way first. Thank you anyway.

Completely useless now that we can patch home menu permanently. You only need to reinstall the parched filed maybe after emunand is updated, but still that's way way way less hassle than having to run the plugin every single time you start your 3ds

NTR isn't useless by any stretch. Admittedly, the region free patching is kinda obsolete given recent advancements, but its cheat and clock speed plugins are still really useful tools.

Yeah for cheat and clock speed, of course. But for getting region free you wouldn't use freemultipatcher or ntr anymore now. Just patch home menu (take the non spoofed version) and maybe repeat once you update Emunand every few weeks.

You still need NTR to get DLC to work regionfree. The homemenu patch doesn't fix that.
Oh that is useful info.
another question, if i use cia format dlc, does that still mean if I do anything related to NNID, like login to shop or login some game daily (like pokemon shuffle), my cia dlc would be deleted?

I saw another thread saying that the author has US 3ds to play JP FE:IF and he created plugin folder on root of SD/TF, created 000400000012DE00 folder in which he put dlc plugin files. Then DLC was loaded in the game. I wonder in this way can avoid LDC being deleted despite of any NNID activity, for the dlc was not even installed in the console and had nothing to do with NNID. Am I right?

I tested with US Fire Emblem Awakening, using EUR N3DS 10.7 Aureinand w/ patched regionfree homescreen and NTR with US plugin. I was not able to get my dlc to delete, and I used both the eshop and the ingame Fire Emblem DLC shop. The ingame shop since its out of region doesn't work, but it still didn't delete any DLC. I believe as long as you don't have any pieces of DLC of a specific game attached to your NNID, it won't delete any of them. If for example I had somehow 1 Fire Emblem DLC map attached to my NNID, it would delete the rest when using eShop. Since it is out of region, this isn't possible so, nothing to worry about.
Maybe other games behave differently.

Thank you very much for your actual test. Now I understand the safety of different ways of DLC.

Sorry for bothering again.
Based on no-patched for region NAND (US):
I have a game, like Nintendo Football club, which is EUR, but I find a region-free version.
I find a DLC of it. unknown region-free or not. Let's assume it not. SO a EUR DLC.
Both installed and the DLC would not be recgonized in the region-free game on my US, not-patched, console, right?

Correct, the only way to get the DLC recognized would be to use NTR and the language emu plugin. In this case, you want to use the EUR langemu plugin in the folder. This tricks your 3DS to act like its a EUR region 3DS during the game, and everything works like it should.
