I'm currently trying to access online for Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition (on cartridge) and it seems that they require me to update to 10.7. I'm currently on 10.5 emunand o3dsxl and would like to preserve my menuhax. What are my options to get back online? I heard of a program called HANS.Would that work?

You will need to update the friends system-module. See here for instructions on how to do so.
You dont need 10.7 friends module for online access in all games, the older is fine (10.6).... for many games he just needs tiger, nver and eshop mint from 10.7 to be able to go online or simply the latest firmware (complete).

Should have quoted you first... Updating your Emunand won't break menuhax, it's impossible.

If you are talking about Menuhax on your emuNAND, then... why? Just install the Homebrew Launcher .cia and use that.

If you are talking about Menuhax on your sysNAND, then updating your emuNAND will not affect it.

and thought that menuhax stopped working after update..

No, that's if you update your sysNAND to 10.6 or higher that you would lose MenuHax (and if you're not on A9LH, you'd lose the ability to boot your emuNAND as well). Updating emuNAND is completely separate from sysNAND.

That thread describes what exploits are patched when running sysNAND 10.7.
