Hi, so after doing a bit of research (A BIT), I've decided to downgrade my 3DS XL firmware (along with my child's original 3DS and New3DXL), and then install cfw. I was able to borrow a friends sky3ds plus card, and install ninjahax, but i was told that to play backups, i would need to downgrade and then get pasta cfw?

Can you guys confirm if this is the best way to go? We just want to play backups mainly. I was considering getting a sky3ds+, but it's so expensive, and I don't want to buy 3 cards for each of us, as well not be able to play the eshop games.

If anyone could direct me to any links for downgrading, as well as the firmware, i would be so grateful. I work quite a bit, researching isn't my strong suit either...thanks a lot in advance.

i really just need what order to proceed in, and what cfw to get.

Your best bet is to set up CFW, though Pasta isn't exactly the latest and greatest. Aureinand and CakesFW are the two popular ones right now. You need to downgrade to 9.2 to set either up, which is a fairly straightforward process now. You can set up an emunand CFW, which is easiest but has some downsides, or you can go all out and get your OTP, install a9lh and have an updated sysnand. A9lh isn't 100% risk-free to set up, definitely do your research before you make any decisions, but IMO the end result is worth it. This guide is excellent for the entire process:

If you'd rather not set up a9lh, just stop once you've got an emunand set up in that guide.

You should be able to find a tutorial on here about downgrading. I'm not sure of a good one currently since all of the 3DSes I've downgraded were 10.3>x. I use ReiNAND because I had trouble with Cakes (but I am a huge fan of Cakes, just had some issues on my system).

I use RxTools. Thats also a popular one alongside ReiNand and Aureinand. Pretty much all CFW does the same thing so just pick whichever you prefer.

So i was able to complete the whole process - now on cfw sysand, using aueri .thanks so much bakegata.

Just a quick ques, installing the CIAs, am I ok to play online, update the games, etc? and once new firmware comes out from Nintendo, can I upgrade with no issues, and still continue to be able to use my cfw sysand? thanks again.

Yep, you've got it. Online play is fine, and you can update through system settings generally. If there's a major update (unlikely at this point, but hey) you may need to update AuReiNAND first, but that's as easy as dropping a few files on the sdcard, then updating from system settings.

If you mean they all freeze with menuhax randomly, then yes, they do.

May your ascension to the A9LH master race be brick free.

Thanks - going to do my sons N3DS and daughters o3ds next. I hope I don't brick either.
Good luck! Just be careful managing your NAND dumps and firmware downgrade packs: O3DS and N3DS are different, and NAND dumps (both emunand and sysnand) are tied to the console they were dumped from.
