It consumes a bit more battery, you will not notice the difference during gameplay, but if you have a habit of leaving your 3DS in sleep mode when not using it and rarely turn it off, you will notice that the battery lasts shorter in sleep mode. You can eject the cart when you put the console in sleep mode to avoid that.
