Ok, I need help getting things sorted out. There are a lot of posts full of info, but I get confused with so much stuff going on and I need clear answers.

  • My 2DS is on FW 10.3.0-28E, can I downgrade it?
  • Can I install CFW on it once downgraded?
  • Can I backup games on the 2DS?
  • How much memory do I need on the SD card?
If you could answer all these questions, it would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Yes.
  2. Yes, I'd suggest rxTools if you want to play out-of-region games, because rxTools is the only CFW that allows you to use out-of-region CIAs AFAIK.
  3. Yes, using FunkyCIA if you want them in *.CIA format, or the Gateway launcher if you want them in *.3DS format, and want to dump carts only.
  4. I'd say at least 5GB, but I suggest you get something larger if you plan on pirating games. I have a 16 GB SD card and I ran out of room the day I got my CIA installer set up because of how many games I installed.

With downgrading, the only risk is that it fails while downgrading and either soft or hardbricks your console, but the risk is very low on the o3DS so you should be fine.
With updating emuNAND, you risk updating sysNAND and loosing access to emuNAND, but only if your NANDs are still linked.

What is this emuNAND and sysNAND? Where can I read about this?
sysNAND is when you run your firmware off of the 3DS' on-board memory, it's the thing you see when you turn on the 3DS for the first time (and if you have no CFW or emuNAND set up)
emuNAND is when you run your firmware off of the SD card, and it kinda emulates the firmware (hence the name emuNAND) and can give you more permissions that you usually wouldn't have when you use sysNAND.

I can't see the guide, my school blocks Pastebin. Can you paste it here and post it?

Great! :)
Is it hard to maintain the CFW, like, use it without screwing stuff up?
Oh, it shouldn't be too hard if you make backups often, or before you do things like updating or screwing with system titles.
I always make a backup right before I update.

Everything about this sounds hard as hell, but you can play anything you want after you do it :/ Its too good to pass up.

Yeah, it is kinda hard if you're doing it for the first time but it's totally worth it.
Hopefully one day it'll become easier.

I would highly recommend following this guide once you've downgraded to 9.2. It covers using multiple CFW options and how to set up Coldboot, so you always land in Emunand when starting your machine unless you press a button to do otherwise.

http://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial...luding-emunand-coldboot-cia-installer.405589/

One step I recommend once you've created your EmuNand and before updating is change your theme in the EmuNand to something obvious and create folders in you SysNand and EmuNand to show where you're at (ie. a folder called S in SysNand and a folder called E in EmuNand) and put them in the first spot on your home menu. This gives you a very clear visual cue of whether you're in SysNand or EmuNand. Also, make sure the Ver string is changed to reflect your EmuNand in System Settings before you update. (For RXTools, I believe is should say RX3D 9.2 for the version number.)

EDIT: forgot the link to the guide thread.

I remember before you couldnt downgrade the 2DS, when did the software come out?
The reason you used to not be able to downgrade the 3DS was because the Gateway downgrade packs downgraded your firmware to a version that was not available for the 2DS. It works now because you're downgrading to a firmware available for the 2DS.
