Homebrew Have I Messed Up Guys?

It seems you got everything right. If you followed my tutorial to the point, you will have ctrbootmanager set up to automatically start reinand after some seconds. Reinand can't boot sysnand at all, you'll always be in Emunand. Only if you skip the menuhax at the beginning (or start pasta cfw from homebrew launcher) you will get into sysnand.

Just go into fbi on your emunand, and install your cia now. Done. Have fun playing.

I think I messed up slightly.I selected the option to hold down L to boot it up when I wanted it to started automatically. Is there any way to change this?

Also,I cannot find/get into my Homebrew menu. Im guessing its on that REIUNAND purple menu at the beginning but the screen disappears quick and if i select Homebrew menu I just get a red crash screen.

Any idea?

edit: Si Im browsing the Purple Rei screen now,and Im clicking Homebrew and getting frozen red screen

Did you use my boot.cfg? The one attached to the end of the first post in the tutorial? This one isn't purple, it's white. And for homebrew crash I guess you didn't rename the original boot 3dsx to bhbl.3dsx, cause that's what my boot.cfg points to. Or you got the wrong boot.cfg. Please download the one from my tutorial, make sure your homebrew launcher 3dsx is called bhbl.3dsx (its in smeas homebrew starter pack) and then it'll work.

And for your menuhax autoboot, just go into menuhax manager again from homebrew launcher and change the boot option to type2.

I tried to download that file but it said it was no longer available:/

I used the one in the Rei pack because I couldn't get your one...

The boot.zip download at the end of the tutorial works fine. Try refreshing your browser or clearing cache.

But you don't necessarily need it. Since you took ctrbootmanagers boot.cfg, You need to manually change the path of homebrew launcher to bhbl.3dsx in the boot.cfg. Set autobootfix to 2 while you're at it. If the timeout is to short for you you can also increase that value, gives you more time before autoboot.

Out of curiosity was there a reason you chose that naming scheme for the homebrew menu 3dsx in your tutorial instead of what ctrbootmanager usually has you rename it as?
I ran into quite a few people having issues since they either overlooked that unconventional change in the filename, or got mixed up while crossreferencing tutorials and the official ctrbootmanager instructions.

The reason is that many people use yellows8 homebrew launcher cia, which in combination with ctrbootmanager requires you to edit the payload to point to the homebrew launcher 3dsx instead of the ctrbootmanager 3dsx. Because you do that in a hex editor, this alternative name for the homebrew launcher 3dsx needs to also be four characters long. Ctrbootmanager by default uses boothbl.3dsx or Boot_hbl or something like that. You couldn't edit that into the payload. That's why I in the first place use the four character name bhbl.3dsx so people don't have to rename and edit it again afterwards.

I didn't have it like that in the beginning but then decided to change it as more and more people came up wanting to use yellows8 homebrew launcher cia and this means they have to rename the launcher 3dsx again and edit the boot.cfg. To avoid that I just renamed it in my tutorial and in the boot.cfg so that the optional edit of the payload will be more convenient.

File structure is correct. Should work now.

Oh I see, I figured you probably had a reason as it'd be a strange change to make completely arbitrarily.
Personally I prefer the HBlauncher cia to push to ctrbootmanager for the added versatility, but I never considered that many would have desire to bypass this (and the possible autoboot looping and timeout issues that would arise) with a clever hex edit.

Thanks for the explanation.

Ah well makes sense, as I said you could push through in ctrbootmanager if you prefer if it's not autobooting, but I get why you set it up the way you did for your tutorial now.

Ok so its all working now, thanks for your help dude! Only issue Im having now is its saying install is failed when I try to install that Yokai Watch CIA file. Its not working at all.

Oh,and what must I change the menuhax thing to to make it auto boot up?

Rather than make a new thread i thought i'd post here: I havent been using homebrew for much (been on 10.3 N3ds, didn't care enough to downgrade) and i just updated so i could get the sm4sh dlc and uh. now my 3ds's screens are black. did i somehow brick the fucker?
I'd take the SD card but i can't find a small screwdriver to actually get to the microsd card. If i can fix it i'll reply but in the meantime any suggestions?

It's most likely the Home Menu, something that happened to both my emunand system and my legit system. If you can take out your SD card, it will boot fine. In order to boot with your SD card, you'll have to delete a folder that ends with "8f" in your Nintendo 3DS folder of your SD card. All your games will be wrapped up as gifts, and the sort order will be scrambled, but saves and everything are still fine.

You updated your 10.3 system to 10.5, not an emunand, you had homebrew installed, but now it won't boot?

Just take the sd card out.

Sounds good. Thanks for a quick reply :D

Well it seems i don't have a file with 8f at the end? i'm moving my homebrew files off of the card (including menuhax which i think is what was making it freeze)

Oh, it's not a file, it's a folder, the order is:

Nintendo 3DS folder\long string of numbers\another long string of numbers\extdata\00000000\0000008f

That 8f folder is the Home menu information, and like you said it's likely Menuhax which is the cause. Deleting that 8f folder will reset the home menu.

Emunand is an emulated nand memory. The sysnand is the physical nand memory on your 3ds motherboard which your "vanilla" 3ds software is installed. Emunand is a virtual nand chip I guess you could say that is stored on your SD card.
Yes. That's exactly what it is.

The point of it is that you can do whatever you want to your emunand. Change themes on it, install CIAs to it, update it, downgrade it, take the SD card out and throw it into a fire, or anything you want and you won't permanently brick anything. You can always restore a backup of your emunand, or if you don't have a backup you can just create a new one and start over.

Meanwhile doing all of that with your sysnand would involve a lot more risk of permanently bricking things. So the idea is that you set up Menuhax so that it automatically boots you into your emunand instead of your sysnand, and then you just mess around in emunand all the time.
It's like a tomogatchiiiiiiiiiiiii pet!
