Okay, so, I've finally figured everything out, but I still have one question: do I have to have a gateway card or is there anything else I can use? It seems like Gateway doesn't support system software newer than 9.2, so I'm confused here. I apologize for my ignorance.

Also, thank you Asia81. That seems to have worked.

Nope, you fon't need gateway at all. Just 2 homebrews are needed : brain dump & hans

So I got my ROM extracted with brain dump, but the rxtools.dat isn't loading through my browser.. Also, the guide I was watching he just had a software called romfs extractor in his rompack, but mine doesn't include it! I even found another rompack (the one from the actual guide/neo y) and it doesn't include it either. I tried googling to no prevail, so I figured i'd go with the rxtools.dat method.. but it's just loading rxtools.dat endlessly. I'm gonna throw the sd on my computer again and try to fiddle with it, but so far it seems like I have everything on right.

edit: It also seems that my rom is in a bin file instead of a 3ds file like the tutorial asks for? I tried just physically changing it to 3ds but that didn't seem to do the trick either.. my rxtools just won't boot up.

EDIT: ASIA 81 or someone else on team kosaki is a god because apparently the hackingtoolkit includes romfs extractor I LOVE YOU SO MUCH

So the Homebrew/Non-CIA method didn't work for me so I did it another way. I've also included Hans banners so you can launch Neo X/Y directly from the Homebrew Launcher (like Star Sapphire/Rutile Ruby)!
  1. Dump X/Y with braindump and copy the result over ro your PC
  2. Use RomFS Extractor.exe (in Pack Hack archive here http://jmp.sh/oIFk60d) on the romfs.bin file
  3. Rename the resulting romfs_ folder to romfs
  4. Copy paste the romfs folder in NeoXY1.33\Installation hub\data\Full onto the romfs folder you just generated and allow it to overwrite files (use the Lite folder if you want the Lite version of the hack)
  5. Open RomFS Builder.exe (also in the Pack Hack archive above) and select the romfs folder with it then click Go. When it asks you to save the file, name it neox.romfs or neoy.romfs depending on what version you have
  6. Place neox.romfs/neoy.romfs in /hans on SD card (i.e. the hans folder at root of your SD card, if this folder doesn't exist then make it)
  7. Download the Hans banners from here: http://jmp.sh/keHofTo and go into the folder for your version (X or Y)
  8. Copy the 3ds folder here to the root of your SD
  9. Eject your SD, put it in your 3DS and run Neo X or Neo Y from the Homebrew Launcher!

Neo X & Neo Y are rom hacks of Pokemon X and Y designed to offer the player greater difficulty through expanded trainers and better variety through edited wild Pokemon encounters along with a plethora of other features. NeoX&Y are pretty much identical at this stage.
vfui4h.png
Full and Lite Versions
15d8m50.png
  • Full version contains all the features mentioned below
  • Lite version contains only edited trainers and wild Pokemon encounters
Main Features
15d8m50.png
Trainers

  • A more consistent but much harder level curve to greatly increase difficulty
  • Many trainers now have a greater amount of Pokemon with custom movesets, higher IVs and items
  • Gym leaders have been significantly upgraded. They get progressively tougher in terms of amount of Pokemon, IVs, Access to Mega-Evolution, move-sets and items
  • There are a greater number of rotation, double and triple battles
  • Calem and Serena's teams' will be completely different depending on your starter
vfui4h.png
Pokemon
(See documentation for detailed information)

  • All 721 Pokemon available in one play-through - every area has a lot more variety to offer
  • All previously unavailable Pokemon are now included - Eg; Rattata
  • Most Pokemon now have easy access to their Hidden abilities. Pokemon who had comparatively non-beneficial abilities have been given a new set entirely
  • Many Pokemon have had their stats slightly edited to make them comparatively viable to use; Some have also had their typing edited such as Golduck who is now Water/Psychic
  • A lot of Pokemon have had their level up moveset edited to either match that of ORAS or improve those who didn't have a great moveset to begin with
  • A few moves themselves have been edited in terms of accuracy, type and BP. HMs such as cut have had their typing changed and BP boosted
  • Pokemon who needed to be traded to evolve can now be evolved by alternate methods (usually by level up)
  • Pokemon who can mega evolve such as Mawile will have a 50% of carrying their respective mega stone
  • All Pokemon eggs now hatch extremely quickly
15d8m50.png
Storyline

  • The storyline has been adjusted slightly to make it a little more interesting and controversial (are you doing the right thing?)
  • Team flare have a new ranking order (Leader Lysandre - Deputy Leader Xerosic - four Elemental admins - Commanders - Grunts)
  • Elemental admins are much stronger and use diverse teams according to their element
  • You now have more battles with Shauna, Tierno and Trevor. Most of these are optional and are initiated by seeking out and talking to trainers in areas - Eg; Santalune Forest

i am curious about the specific differences between the full and lite versions. It said the lite version contained only trainer and wild pokemon encounters. Im not sure of which features are actually included. for example, are the movesets still changed? what about the story line? is the difficulty still ramped up? i love the hack, but i knew it was too hard when i had to grind for ten minutes to beat the first trainer, and when my level 10 chespin got 1 shotted by a level 4 tailow. I want to be able to play it, but the difficulty is a little too annoying. i could beat with enough time and patience, but i want to have fun with the hack, so i was hoping their would be a version that retains all the changes, but lowers the difficulty curve.

Thé lite version contains only trainer and encounters changes, movepools, types and texts aren't edited.
If you want to play the hack with the standard difficulty curve, you have to manually replaces files in your romfs to keep those related to the trainers vanilla. I don't remember which ones they are buy I know you can find it in pk3ds, I'll edit when I have access to my computer.

Any chance that we will get a pokemon blue mod for the x/omega engine?
AFAIK we are able to edit 3d models and values from some tables of the game, but I've not heard of someone who'd be able to alter the game to the extent of changing the map qnd évents. So no I don't think à blue mod of XYORAS would be possible right now.

Would be great if it did. Wonder how hard it would be to add it in. Aren't they both using the same engine, from what I've gathered in the ORAS rom hack threads?
PK3DS allows us to edit the mega forms already, so it would probably be doable to overwrite XY's 3D models and mega tables with ORAS's but I haven't seen it done yet.

There a document named "Location changes" : it's organized by road, so search for whichever pokemon you are looking for with Ctrl+F

If I have Pokemon Y on my gateway can I still use pokemon X file for Neo X ?
nevermind I just deleted my Y save didn't have anything on it anyways transferred my good mons to OR a while back
just trying to make it work now and btw are there any differeces between Neo X and Neo Y ? because it's "recommended" to use Y but there is no clear reason why it's recommended
so I tried and I can't make rxtools work.... when I try to launch rxtools the browser just doesn't do anything shows me communication error and that's it , no crash no nothing.. any idea why ?

is it recommended to play this before i play the regular version of x/y?

Definitely not. The difficulty has been upped a lot in this mod, so I don't recommend you play it as your first experience. Besides, XY already has quite a good story to begin with.
