Hi,
Yes you're in the wrong section, but here are some key points:
-All the "possibilities" of hacking such as launching game backups without buying anything but the console (so no Gateway/Sky3DS linker needed) are possible with the 9.2 version.
It's all possible through exploits that allow you to install a custom firmware and even to copy the entire OS of the 3DS to your micro SD card. Then, when you turn on your 3DS, the system is launched from the micro SD card (it's emulation so it's called emuNAND) while the original OS, still on the console, is called "sysNAND". This is a safe way to launch a modified version of the OS without risking the life of your console each time you install something a bit risky.
-If your console is >9.2, you need to downgrade. Exploits allow installing 9.2 on consoles up to 10.3.
At the moment 10.4 isn't out yet but it may be out very soon. It's important to know what is the last version on Nintendo's servers because in the process of downgrading, bad things can happen. If you follow all the instructions precisely you should be fine, but a mistake or bad luck can cause 2 situations: - your console is bricked (does not turn on at all, no way to repair it so best solution is to try Nintendo's warranty program), or - your console is "semi-bricked", i.e. the system can't boot up but you have access to the recovery mode by pressing A+R+L+Up(DPad) while turning on the console. In this case, the console connects to Nintendo's servers to reinstall the system. So if the last version is 10.4, no way to downgrade anymore then.
-All editions of 3DS/N3DS <=10.3 can be downgraded.
-I've seen some bricks from people who tried to downgrade from 9.9xxx versions. It can work, but if I were you, I'd update the console to 10.3 and then restore the system before downgrading if the 10.4 version is still not out.
Take the time to read as much things as you can before trying anything. The life of your console depends on it
Cut the guy some slack. It's all too easy to ask people to find out for themselves, but there are pages upon pages of threads (some with mulitple hundreds of pages themselves) to dig through. Most of the tutorials are quite confusing in that they assume prior knowledge, or are not regularly updated.
There is no 10.4 yet so not to worry about that.
The purpose of downgrading to 9.2 is because this is the latest firmware to have a known kernel mode exploit. This lets you do things such as pirate games, access more hardware resources for emulators, use a CFW etc. Newer firmwares are essentially limited to homebrew as they are 'usermode' exploits.
Shame on you all(except those of you with normal responces), with the current hacks the search doesn't work as well as you think, all of you did nothing but make useless post whereas he only asked you simple questions.
10.4 isn't out. So all the 3DS versions can be downgraded and hacked, and I mean all!
Look up guides -> install browser hax -> install menu hax -> downgrade -> install browser hax -> install menu hax -> get rx tools -> pirate games
instead of ... acting like smart ass.
now that 10.4 is released
Thank you.
Everyone was a noob once.
Some ppl are just rude and forget they were once one too!
r/3dshacks has a sticky thread called 'All you need to know':
https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/3ztqqv/all_you_need_to_know_by_popular_demand/
Yes, I was a noob once. But the difference was I took my time and spent enough effort to read available content, also spent hours learning the methods and how things work. Sure it's faster to ask (I find myself asking specific questions), but overall it boils down to how much effort you are willing to pour into this system as I'm sure everyone knows: Downgrading is dangerous and meticulous. If you're not willing to scour the internet for readily available guides and information, you might be better off sending your system to someone else and let them do it for you.
Newbies always ask the same questions...
The problem isn't the "smart asses" of the world. We are now in 2016... Computers are a household item in a majority of countries. To learn even the basics of searching on a forum takes a few minutes (if that).
There are stickies, on the top of every subsection. If you can comprehend 4th grade English, maneuvering the stickies shouldn't be a problem.
To find out if the newest firmware is released? "Nintendo 3DS Firmware" in Google... 3 seconds...
To find out where to begin? Look at the tutorials section.. Most, if not all of the front page threads are current.
If you can't even figure out where to ask these questions, how can you expect anyone to take you seriously?
You're going to need to read them all anyway. And also, you should've realized by now that the convenience or 'efficiency' you seek is often (if not always) frowned upon in the scene or any other scene for that matter, hence the many negative posts. Too many threads? Weed them out using the search function. It's not that I didn't want to read through all the threads which has many and not sure which one is relevant to my questions..
There is just too many threads..
It's just more faster to ask..
Also I heard rumour from some other forum that the 10.4 was getting released on 12/1/2016..
So I didn't have time...
I also have not been following the 3ds hacking scene at all since I don't have a console yet.
And I was concern the 10.4 was releasing very soon..
So time is of the essence..
Asking the question directly is more efficient that me looking through all those threads and still not get an answer..

nah you can always say no to a 3ds update of which there is none. you just didnt wanna read, or even do a quick search for "noob" and "questions" to see maybe if there is a specific thread for even this.In my case I needed to find the answer to my questions quickly and directly since I believed I don't have much time..
If you can't find any info about it, then shouldn't that be a BIG clue to you? It's just a matter of elimination. If 10.3 is 'hackable' then it is 'hackable'. That information is readily available in a quick browse. Your next questions (post #5) are all available in the forum without you needing to read ALL of the available content. You can even see some of them in the front page. I don't even know how you manage to be so smug about this. You've broken a rule, do not know how to search, too lazy to read, and coming of as a douche in the process.yes, I understand I will eventually will need to read it all
but as I said I didn't believe I have time since I heard some people saying 10.4 was releasing very soon this 12/1.
So I needed the answer quickly in case I need to buy the console quickly before the exploit gets patch.
Weed out the threads..
You try to weed out those threads and see if any would answer my questions that I posted...
Look there are many ways to gather information..
-search through forums
-read all those threads
-ask questions..
In my case I needed to find the answer to my questions quickly and directly since I believed I don't have much time..
Those ppl who posted neg posts is not my concern. If they want to be arse holes then that is up to them.
Nobody forced them to read or respond to my thread.
At least I still get some kinder people who are not as rude to answer my questions.
And I got my answers.
