I'm in a high school tech class and my teacher wants us to do something that will benefit the school/community/world in some way. I've tried unsuccessfully to do things for other people, so I thought why not make some open-source 3ds (or Wii but 3ds is preferable) homebrew. But I'm not exactly sure what to make, I'm not exactly great at C yet and GUIs are way beyond me (for a good while at least). Can anyone think of any projects that I could make? or would anyone be willing to work with me (or let me help them in any way)? I don't necessarily have a deadline I just need to show that I've been doing something, even if someone else has been working with me.

and my tech teacher doesn't know crap about programming either.

This is off-topic, sorry, but I start my IST classes next year and was thinking about what if my teacher asked us to do this? :) Lol

My post is off-topic or your comment is?
My comment. Personally, I believe your post is a great idea, as it helps the home brew community to "flourish", in a sense.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Do you have any ideas of what you might make? Also, would it be userland or would it have kernel access?

1. honestly, not a clue (that wouldn't be a worse version of something already done), my teacher would probably accept almost anything though, I personally wouldn't release anything like that though.
2. my 3ds (9.0) has kernel access but I doubt anything I'd make would actually need kernel access.

If GUIs are beyond you I would stick to making a console program. This is pretty easy to do on a DS, not sure about 3DS. You just need to have a DS flashcart.

For example you could make a calculator or a choose your own adventure story. To do anything more you'd want to have a good grasp of object oriented programming techniques.

lol, I've done way to many of those....
I might try doing a text based game, anyone feel like giving suggestions as to what it should be about?
