Hello, 1st time posting here so not 100% sure of the posting habits.

My current status:

I used this guide (I don't speak Spanish, I just followed the video...) to downgrade the 3DS to 4.5.0 and create an emuNand on RX3D 10.3.0-28E.

as a tl;dr of the video:

  • install menuhax
  • downgrade with sysupdated to 9.6 (or so, the common downgrade atm)
  • backup system nand via go.gateway-3ds.com
  • use gateway launcher to downgrade again (which leads to 4.5)
  • format emuNAND via gateway launcher
  • do the /dbs structure thing with the empty files
(here is where it does an alternative route I didn't see in other guides before but still went with it)
  • a LoadCode4.dat (started via the browser) which seems to write into the *SETTINGS > OTHER SETTINGS > PROFILE > NINTENDO DS PROFILE* a piece of code to launch the rxTool
  • load emuNand -> update emuNand
  • load rxTool and overwrite the health and security info with the FBI tool

thats the video in short form.

What I did now is to reformat the system nand (to separate emu and system) and that's it.

I wanted to install the CtrBootManager to always load into the emuNand and install (and find first, seems to be hard) .cia's of the FBI and HBL so I could launch them directly from the emuNand - but since I'm on FW 4.5 all the guides and descriptions I find don't work since they utilize the theme manager... so yeah - how would you proceed from my point?

. . . here is a proper guide [Tutorial] Installing rxTools Custom Firmware - (3DS and 2DS) it sounds like you should start on part 2

You can update sysnand to 9.2 sysupdater and rxTools Dev Mode/Pasta Mode to get the theme manager and use Menuhax + ctrbootmanager.

The best way to procceed was:

*Downgrade to 9.2
*Install Browserhax
*Use Browserhax to install Menuhax
*Get ctrbootmanager.
*Use The Homebrew launcher to install FBI

Downgrading to 4.5 was a totally useless step.

By downgrade to 9.2 you mean upgrade since I am on 4.5, correct?
And yes I see that this was completely useless I was not aware that this would happen as I was following the guide.

I was referring to your original procedure.

But yeah, upgrade to 9.2 using Dev Mode should be your next step.

Do you have Cubic Ninja or Ocarina of Time 3D? That will make it easier.

You are Golden then! Do this:

*Install Ninjhax 1.1
*Boot PastaCFW
*Use sysupdater to update to 9.2
So, Pasta CFW installed, launched (tried to install a CIA via FBI and it worked)
But sysupdater... hmm I placed my CIA in sd0:/updates/
but on the action of (A) update, in sysupdater, the app just closes and throws me back to HBL

if you still keep your nand.bin from 3rd step, just restore it and start cfw setup from there.
less chance to screwed up when updating sysnand using sysupdater.

Wait what's wrong with being on 4.5? You can use mset to load cfw.

menuhax made 4.x CFW completely obsolete. Now you can cold boot into CFW on 9.0-9.2. The main advantage 4.x users had was MSET and MSET downgrades for 9.x users sorta made that obsolete too. :P

As a follow up.
I've been fighting the whole day with menuhax.

I did restore my sysNAND to 9.2.0-20E and tried to follow this guide to get menuhax, bootmanager etc.
But when I click the slider on the browser just closes with "an error has occurred"... I tried to clean the SD and just place the starterkit, but same issues

Can't find any troubleshoot if anyone had this problem before

i personally won't bother with sliderhax on o3ds.
i'd just go with the usual cfw setup route if i were you (use browser exploit to launch gw menu and cfw) after i have unlinked nands and cia manager installed on both, then'd i install hbl loader.cia on sysnand and setup menuhax.

I have to admit that for a 3ds homebrew muggle it's is preeeeetty difficult to get all information toget into it. Sometimes people get outdated information and tut. That would be awesome if we could make a all in one homebrew guide (kinda like the ultimate wii homebrew guide from the german forum.wii-homebrew.com)which includes a bit history if 3ds homebrew, how it works, and of course the what I can/need/have to do tutorials for downgrading, emunand setup, cfw setup, how cia works etc.

Although you have a point, MSET still has fewer booting issues (at least from personal experience) than menuhax as far as booting to CFW. with MSET, it's basically 100 percent boot rate, with menuhax, it's still pretty good, but on occasion it freezes up.

When I tried to launch menuhax via ninjahax I got errors to the context of "can't launch menuhax directly from menuhax without additional had".

And I just couldn't find what exactly is needed since trying to launch it via pastaCFW didn't work as well.

Ok - so I realized I was stupid and could proceed by just by "formating" the browser data.
I can boot the bootmanager (menuhax installed).

Now the issue is, if I boot emunand via bootmanager > rxtool > emunand
I just get a blackscreen and can't seem to boot into the emunand at all
