Seems to solve the problem... for me and a few other people who posted here on this thread.

I mean because formatting resets a lot of things like friend code and whatnot.

There's alot of years i've poured into those streetpasses, i guess its a personal thing. Plus losing all my friends codes would be a bummer.

Probably just gonna have to settle not being able to downgrade (this time around...)

I mean, i'm not even into piracy. Really only wanted to do NAND backups and dump all my cartridges onto my sd card for covenience. RNG gods or whatever, whyyyyy T.T

I think one solution could be to get a hard mod and then use a NAND dump from that to create an emunand. I say this because you can use a NAND dump from Gateway/EmuNAND9/etc. with a hard mod, so why can't you do the reverse?

of course that's not something everyone can get...

Your priorities are awfully skewed. I lost all of my eshop games but I'm not stressing it.

Yeah been reading around about doing a hard mod. Doesnt seem too difficult. Most likely will just go that route.
Then can always make a backup up this firmware if ever wanna keep trying to downgrade in the future

different things are important to different people. you can't really just tell anyone to format because "none of that's important" - it's incredibly subjective.

If they're worried about miniscule things like streetpasses then don't downgrade. Nobody cares and its them not me.

So if I do reformat, I need to relink the NNID immediately afterward, before they pull NNID services?
iirc I was able to relink my nnid through miiverse. So yeah you should do it tbh.

And really, I don't think a hard mod would be useful anyway, as presumably it's something on the sysnand itself that it causing the problem. So flashing that back after reformatting would probably just start the soft brick loop over again.

When it comes to stuff like this - you should go in expecting nothing but the worst. That meaning you do your backups, and prepare for the worst beforehand. You have literally no idea what can happen. I hope this is a lesson to a lot of people who've experienced issues like this, with little to no damage because it will happen eventually if you don't take precaution. This kind of stuff can happen with your everyday computer as well, and is a lesson that people learn the first time the hardest because you don't want there to be a second.

no, what I mean is
  1. create a NAND dump with a hard mod
  2. format sysnand
  3. downgrade
  4. use EmuNAND9 or something to create emunand from nand dump
  5. profit?
now thinking about it, it might not work properly, due to the New3DS emunand issue. however, someone I talked to that had this softbrick issue was able to go to 9.6 just fine - so if they can at least go to 9.5, then this would work for them.

I took as many precautions as I could. I could not have foreseen that Nintendo wouldn't allow backwards system transfers just because of one N3DS-exclusive game, and I backed up all the data I could using the *hax available.

Hmmm...

Truee.
But never know, there may be a stable way of downgrading by then. Whever, if ever i guess. Saftey nets you know, even if it would flash me back to a faulty firmware, at least i'll have that saftey net.
Always possibilities!

So if I could downgrade to 9.5, then I could create an emunand with a hard mod. And if I did succeed in going back to 9.5, I'd be able to then hard mod, back up the nand, reformat, then re-establish hax using browserhax and downgrade the rest of the way?

Does this hard mod involve soldering, and would it mess up my sweet MM exterior?

Umm how did you lose your eShop games? I got mine just fine despite having to format. Hell, I even got most of my saves and my swap note stuff back. Just relink your NNID and you should be good to go. Gotta get that emunand up to 9.5, then install NVER, and use FMP to relink.
