Hi guys! I'm about to buy a Nintendo 3DS (the original), and the Sky3ds+ too. I have been downloading some games, just to test, but there are all USA versions. My Nintendo is an European one. I softmodded my Wii, and I rode somewhere that playing games from other regions can brick the WII. So, I got scared of that and always checked if the ISOS were in PAL. So, any chances of destroying my new 3DS by playing a USA game on it?

You can download a cubic ninja rom and use it to access Ninjhax 2.5

Then use Hans or the region free launcher and play out of region roms.

You can. Get a Cubic Ninja rom for your region and use it to run Homebrew Launcher.
From there you can change the game in the Sky and use the region-free launcher.

You won't be able to launch the games from the 3DS menu.

You'll have to use homebrews and HANS to launch them.
An advice: Download EUR releases.
Because you will not be able to update your USA games... No online for example.

So yes, you will be able to play US games using homebrews but if you can avoid it, just avoid it.

Thanks for the quick replys guys!

Yes, I know about the QR exploit of the Cubic Ninja, but I'm not thinking in hacking my 3DS, especially because if I screw up, I can't buy another one. So, I guess I'll just browse for PAL ROMS.

But I still have the question: playing a USA game on a EUR console/handheld will brick it? I rode something like that somewhere, but I want to confirm it.

You aren't really hacking your system, you download a savegame into your Sky3ds, this savegame boots files from the SD card.

There is 0% chance of brick because as I said before, you aren't really hacking your system.

Thanks! I thought it was a exploit that would let me install homebrew apps and other things like that. I'm more confident now. Thanks!

And seriously, these were the fastest replys I ever saw!

It lets you play homebrew apps, but you don't install them in your system, all you do is copy them to the SD card and run them on the fly.

The exploit itself is installed in the savegame (Sky3ds in your case), and can be uninstalled by simply deleting the savegame.

To add onto that, homebrew running from Homebrew Launcher above 9.2 run strictly in userland. Pretty much, they can access what regular games can and nothing more. They don't have access to anything that could possibly alter your 3DS in a harmful way.
I mean you can alter extdata and that could cause the system to lock up, but that can be solved by taking out the SD card, and isn't something you could end up accidentally doing anyway.
