Try FAT32. Some stuff might have NTFS support, but everything supports FAT32, and usually even if it supports both it supports FAT32 better.

If I remember correctly the Wii / Wii U on its own doesn't have enough power to power one of those hardrives.

You can always try getting one of these cables and plugin one into the wii and the other into the wall using a USB wall adapter.

depends:
If it's just Wii Games, use NTFS
If Wii/GC, use FAT32
If Wii Games + Homebrew, use NTFS.

I have a USB 240GB SSD I wanna dedicate to my Wii. I just hope the USB 2.0 cable will power it alright. It's got 3.0 support, but won't be used.

Buy a cheap powered USB hub, they're all the same when you bring it down to functionality.
