we've been using Hans now to do NES/GB/GBC Rom Injections butr it was recently annouced Feb 27th for the US ( i think sooner elsewhere,) that Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow is comming to the 3DS Virtual Console.

the reason i could think that A Rom injections may breakor be impeeded is w/ teh release of these 3 theres going to be Wireless Trading. (they may possibly be using a newer version of AGB and that the roms are slightly diffrent than thier 90's releases due to that Trading would haveto be changed slightly unless the newer version of AGB Simulated the 2 Connected Consoles over (i'm hoping not just only Local Wireless) Wifi/Internet being connected or a virtual GB Link cable.

whats everyone's thoughts on this?

These are Gameboy titles, not Gameboy Advance. There's nothing to do with AGB here.

As for compatibility, they're actually going to allow for better injections now that linking is possible. This means that any injected games can link and game content can be exchanged.

when you Look at the RomFS theres an AGB Executable at the root of it.

Keep in mind that they said these new releases of R/B/Y (and Green in Japan) are being rebuilt from the ground up with as much accuracy as possible to the original games...so technically, they aren't the original games. They are going to be custom games that won't use VC as far as I'm aware.

"The games remain true to the originals—complete with monochromatic pixel art and 4-bit background music—so you can feel as though you're experiencing these games just as they were back then!

what a dumb turd of bullshit they released.... the biggest advantage of emulators is that you have "settings" you can do a lot of stuff with them to make your game more enjoyable i really love the options on gameyob that let me choose if the game will appear like it was on a gameboy, a color gameboy, or a super game boy...
knowing nintento they don't will give a damn about most people like to play the games in color...
maybe they even will remove the save state option, because we can trade...

According to the video/screenshots I have seen it appears to be standard VC, now since Nintendo does have the source code for RBY (and so does Github :P) I bet they will fix the issues (Missingno and other glitches) along with add the functionality for wireless transmission.

I think the wireless transmission function is not something they will change in the games source code; rather that would be in the VC "engine" (not really an engine but meh) I guess... I hope they will not fix those glitches... But I think that arbitrary code execution glitch is getting on their nerves. Also I think they'll disable the save state function as it could be used to clone Pokémons. Anyways, if the ROM is actually updated to fix the glitches, there would be a lot of work for https://tcrf.net I guess ^o^

not really to necro my own post or recreate it. it was announced awhile ago that the Wireless trading will be 3DS to 3DS (think the GBA Wireless adapter for FR/LG) bit of a bummer but Maybe a way will be found down the line to trade in thsi manner with friends over the net :/

I heard this crap on reddit after the direct, and not only does it not make any sense to rebuild the game from the ground up, none of those sources actually state that.

First of all, the twitter link is gone, and the first article says nothing at all:
When these titles appear on the Virtual Console, they will be compatible with wireless communication for the first time ever. In the days of the Game Boy, players had to use a Link Cable to connect with friends, but these games will use the Nintendo 3DS system's wireless capabilities to allow you to trade and battle Pokémon in just the same way.
Key word: Virtual Console

The gamestop article also posted did state otherwise though:
These are the original games, recreated as true to the originals as possible, Nintendo said, though it's unclear if glitches or other oddities with the originals have been addressed.
I have looked at other articles and gamestop seems to be the oddity here, so I ditch them as a reliable source on this.

What we should we looking at is the original source, the direct where it states:
We've done the best we can to preserve the games exactly as they were, except... that pesky gameboy game link cable.

I hate sounding like a keyboard warrior or whatever but the literal google definition is:
maintain (something) in its original or existing state.

Even disregarding all of that, looking at the footage itself shows the original gameboy graphical glitches are the same, even the trading screen still shows gameboys.

I guess when it comes around to Feburary 27 we will know the truth, but with the materials we have right now it's more plausible that they use Virtual Console, instead of, you know.. recreating a 19 year old game.

Edit:

This too, emulating gameboy linking isn't impossible, mobile emulators had this feature for a while.

Lol, no way they are 'recreating' the game, And they would not be stupid enough to hardcode wireless link cable emulation for just pokemon, it makes so much more sense to just build robust link cable emulation for all GB vc titles.

not so sure about this... IIRC, the gb/gbc's link mode was hard to emulate due to the nature of it's timing or something. It's possible that it could work specifically for RBY, but I'd be surprised if it worked for every game injected.

Also, fwiw, the source code for pokemon red and blue is out on the web (disassembly of course)
