It just occured to me that we have an app available that launches DS mode, and is not DSi ware. Futhermore, it doesn't launch DS mode strait from the home menu, but from in the app itself. I'm wondering if anyone has looked into the download play app, and seen if DS rom injection would be possible?

I don't think a DS rom injection would be possible. We have topics close similar to this, and everyone's requesting to use a flashcard since it's much easier to use.

If we don't even have DSiWare injection, then DS injection would seem to be even less likely.

Yep if someone did work out how to do this it would just be fixing a problem that does not exist as has been said numerous times in other similar threads you can just buy a flash cart for a couple of bucks and have every game run perfectly with no graphics errors or frame rate issues ect. To develop this would take a lot of effort with very little rewards due to the fact of how easy it is to get flash carts

It wouldn't really be a waste of effort. People are still putting a lot of effort into making Game Boy emulators for the Homebrew Channel despite them already being playable with flashcards.

that is because the emulators were not perfect and some games would not work or some had slowdown or graphics errors. But using a ds flashcart to play ds games you are getting something that plays all games 100% as they should be played and is easily available to the vast majority of the world at a very low cost. Like I said we would just be fixing a problem that does not exist.

Being an owner of flashcarts, I noticed that the DSTwo seems to drain battery faster (even when the system is off). And yes, it is nice, I use it on my DS lite, however, I think It would be nice to have DS titles on the home menu as separate apps. We can do this with 3DS, and GBA games (not to mention GBC, NES, etc). For me, yes, there are alternatives, but for the organization part (and battery life) it would be nice

In regards your point I fully understand where you are coming from but like I said this has been discussed many times here in the past and the concensus from devs is it is not really worth their time in developing something because of the abundance of flashcarts they would rather devote their time in making things we can't already easily do. Plus the only way this would work would be to do it the same way nintendont works on the wii and even with that you can't have individual game titles on the home menu you have to load nintendont and then select your game from the list of available games or you can pick one game to auto-boot each time you load nintendont so there is no suitable way to get this to work the way you want.

DS works like GBA on 3DS
The system gets downclocked to run games, so I don't think injecting DS apps would be easy

I don't think it would be that simple, since Download Play is designed to save the entire game in RAM, but most DS games are too large to fit (remember the DS only had 4 MB of RAM), we would have to change how the Download Play app works, and it of course doesn't have access to the SD card slot, so there isn't really anywhere it can boot an entire DS ROM from.

I was lead to believe that DS software essentially runs on 'bare metal' (i.e. with no underlying operating system watching over it) that's probably why we're yet to see any classic DS titles in virtual console yet.

I've completely forgot about the Sudokuhax. That one was a good start of playing roms in there. I don't think the exploit will work for the 3DS. If it does then that'll be pretty sweet. Considering that it could take you to the DS Homebrew rather than 3DS Homebrew.

The dstwo uses the same amount when it's running, but leaving it in when the system is closed/suspended does cause significant battery drain.

If it's draining your battery when the system's completely off, something is seriously wrong with your system.
