I had the same problem before, do not run any DS mode software unless you want to do this every time.
Caryying a DS flashcart with rxinstaller.nds is highly recommended.

Yeah, it will work with no problems.
You want to system transfer from O3DS emunand to N3DS sysnand? Or from O3DS emunand to N3DS emunand?

In any case, basically you'll have to do this:

3DS XL sys10.1 >> O3DS emu10.1
Then, downgrade O3DS emu10.1 to emu 9.0
Then, O3DS emu9.0 >> N3DS 9.0sys or emu

Okay I just did the 1st part now how would I downgrade the O3DS to the same firmware that is on my N3DS which is on 9.0.0-20U.

And once after the 7 day wait do i need any game or carts to spoof the firmware with freemultipatcher on the N3DS??

Actually I have installed the mset_eur.cia (MD5 D7F80019EB280244BB68212B0E77B9DA) from Gateway on my n3DS.
And in FBI installed the rxTools ROP for n3DS 9x.

Does it makes sense to use a 6.x MSET? If yes, which?

rxinstaller.nds are stable now.
But I would use themehax instead of MSET. It is extremely convenient and simple.

1) Download latest rxTools nightly and put files into sd card.
2) Put this .3dsx into /3ds/rxTools http://www.mediafire.com/download/ydvv3aa3mk1kuy7/rxtools.3dsx
3) Install themehax via browserhax http://smealum.github.io/3ds/
4) Turn on your 3ds with L button pressed.
5) profit

I have managed to load rx tools sysmode on themehax, however I cant seem to load it for emunand, it loads to a black screen with the backlights turned on, is this happening because I am using a linked gateway emunand?

Actually I am confused since there has so much happend to the methods how to enter emuNAND.
Is HomeMenuhax also working for n3DS? Like MSET?

You can use the multibbot mod on homebrew section for choose hbl rxmode cakesfw or pasta but i dont know if pasta work on old3ds

Well, it's called themehax, so obviously it only works on 9.0+.

Where is the safest way to upgrade my 4.x o3ds to 9.x? I have downloaded "9.2.0-20U(no.mset-twl-wlist-agb).zip" from iso site and extract "updates" folder inside to root of sdcard. Then I have to inject FBI to my sysnand, then go to devmode, install sysupdater and go to sysupdater and install a bunch of cia update files inside "updates" folder? Is devmode and fbi injection working well with lastest nightly version of rxtools?
