Hacking Firmware 5.5.0 Out Now!

I booted up my Wii U console and it downloaded the update due to a router reset that unblocked all the connections to nintendo's servers.

I haven't updated it, but if I turn it on it just says "Wii U will now update" with "OK" as the only option. Is there a safe mode I can boot into (like the 3ds) so I can get out of this lock?
There doesn't seem to be a safe mode/maintenance mode like the Wii or 3DS, at least not one that has been discovered.

I believe if you had standby functions on, then it might install the update while the console is off, so consider unplugging it while a red light is showing.

Thanks Margen67 :P

You can't boot directly to wiimode with starting b-button pressed? ninny is evil with these updates.

Turn off your WLAN router, boot your Wii U and then kill the internet settings. That is how I prevented 5.5 and it worked.

that won't work it's too late his wiiu has already downloaded the update it's on his wiiu now it wants to install it and won't let him continue until he clicks OK.

It works for me. Without internet connection it doesn't ask me to update. I can play offline without problems and the system settings menu still says I'm on 5.4. When I got the update nag I immediately turned off the console, I don't think it downloads the whole thing and can install it without internet (like the 3DS does).

So, before I made my post the damn thing was right in the middle of installing the update, with the bar passing halfway. I unplugged it just after I came to my senses and decided to check if the update did anything. Good thing I did so.

Now I just did what you said, and now I bypassed the update. Yay.

Also just got rid of my internet settings on the Wii U to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Good luck getting back all your downloads and saves without updating the console to 5.5.0.
Why would i need the saves, no game i have played so far took THAT long to complete, and i allways buy my games on disc for pretty much that reason, only eshopgames i got are NES-Remix, and Pikmin 3 from being that gift-game that you got for registering the WiiU, i can live with losing that stuff xD
Also, i got plenty of time for doing that since i won't do it until some decent Gamemods like P:M-4, CTGPR-8 or Newer SMBU (or whatever you wanna call them) got made, that's pretty much the only reason i want an exploitable U for, anyways, the Number of really good games for the system can be counted with two hands.
