Hacking Firmware 5.5.0 Out Now!

Felt the same kprovost7314! I planned to buy Xenoblade from the eshop because i want off-tv screen and refuse to use a wiimote. The update hit my console 10 minutes ago and i was pretty mad since the internet connection was necessary for purchases, but the dream of eventually pirating overpriced shit until i get it for a reasonable sum continues! (insert random Kappa)

AH FUCKKKKK SHOULD HAVE UPDATED SOONER
FML
now i'm stuck on 5.3.2 because nothing is confirmed working on this. Great.

Been out the loop for a while, yet isn't 5.3.2 the last version everyone should have updated too? That was the last version I did and the console has been boxed away since.

I meant update to 5.4.0 to get eshop stuff. Now that the kernexploit is out I don't want to update anyways since it's only on 5.3.2 and earlier, but it wasn't out when I posted that.
IIRC the kernel exploit will work on 5.4.0 just fine once the 5.4.0 browser exploit gets released.

M8 I would not worry to much about eshop anymore or online, hold on to that 5.3.2FW, its golden! Now the guys have released the exploit into the wild its only a matter of time before some wizzkid or maybe the team create an emunand based Firmware, its going to happen! I shall not be updating anymore now, even disc/game wise, Nintendo can suck me right off as far as updating is concerned! ;)

That's too bad for me. My router doesn't allow blocks. Any other way to restrict FW updates?

I upgraded my router, so it included more advanced options like MAC and IP filtering, so now the update IP's for Nintendo are permanently blocked for my 3DS and WiiU. When word of the OpenDNS method was announced ages ago, I opted for a new Router, as OpenDNS is good, yet it's not 100% safe.

I know for a fact that i have set up OpenDNS and got it working some months ago, even had the "Download failed" icon, that usually is an indicator... Turned my WiiU back on some days ago to start playing splatoon again and it updated me straight to 5.5.0... Little confused, here. Am i royally boned or is something still coming out for that?

You're fucked for now. OpenDNS works by using your WAN IP to filter stuff at the DNS level, so that when you're traffic hits their servers it says: hey its coming from this dude, block this shit. If you don't keep your WAN IP updated on OpenDNS by using their desktop program or their site ( i think you can do it on the web), your filtering will only last til your IP changes.

Even providers that give you static IPs will eventually switch them out on you in most cases for various reasons and you will never know unless you pay attention to those things.

Oh boy i forgot about the dynamic IP... yeah, that explains a lot. Well shit, now i am updated, probably will have to buy a lower-firm-WiiU and sell my current one at some point... Well thx for the answer, tho.

There will be a 5.5 hax just a matter of time :) look at 3ds 9.2 is hax.
i have waited for this stuff long enough, setting things up to work out and being told that homebrew would be coming "soon™" for nearly a year... Waiting for a new exploit doesn't really feel like that great of an option to me xD I want those Gamehacks that will undoubtedly come soon xD

Then disable all your WiFi settings on the Wii U, not that hard lol.

I booted up my Wii U console and it downloaded the update due to a router reset that unblocked all the connections to nintendo's servers.

I haven't updated it, but if I turn it on it just says "Wii U will now update" with "OK" as the only option. Is there a safe mode I can boot into (like the 3ds) so I can get out of this lock?
