I've been using Sky3DS on my old 3DS XL (fw 9.5) for a couple of months now due to not being able to run Gateway and just recently bought a N3DS XL that came with fw 9.0 and I have couple of questions about transfering to Gateway

Q: Is there a way to transfer my save files I have on my Sky3DS onto Gateway?

Q: Is it possible to update games via eShop on emunand or should I install the updates in .cia format found on sites?

Q: Is it possible to downgrade to fw 4.5 on N3DS, and what's the benefit in doing that rather than staying on fw 9.0?

Yes, using CFW + SaveDataFiler to extract the saves, then SDF in GW mode to import them to the GW. Follow the "Export Retail Card with CFW and SDF" steps here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutoria...v-to-eshop-3ds-3dz-with-savedatafiler.380246/
You can ignore the parts about 4.5 encryption and needing a spare SD card (skip steps 5-7), PastaCFW negates the need for this. PastaCFW is pretty simple to install, just place the files on SD and launch from Ninjhax (using Cubic Ninja on your Sky3DS): https://gbatemp.net/threads/pasta-c...d-on-old-and-new-3ds-required-ninjhax.388925/

Yes. Install this in GW mode and run it each time you boot GW mode and want to access the eShop: https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-free-multi-patcher.391945/

No. You can downgrade mset though, so that you won't need Cubic Ninja/OoT to boot GW mode.

I didn't know that I was always told that sky 3ds saves are not compatible with gateway but I may be wrong.
And mentioning that Iso site is forbidden on here I believe.

Keep running your sky3ds with your saves and don't buy a gateway. Use the sky3ds with cubic ninja and install pasta for system nand and reinand for emunand. Save yourself a few quid

It's all on here. It's quite a simple setup it's just drag and drop a few files and folders to your sd card. But use ninjhax 1 not 2 as that won't let you run cfw yet. Just search reinand on this forum. You need to make an emunand first but backup your sd card first. It is a long process though cause you still need to access gateway to do that with your sky through cubic ninja. Check gateway site for qr code and using gateway launcher on your sd.
You don't need the gateway card to make emunand.

So I do need the gateway cart?
No put gateway launcher on sd card. 3.3. Run cubic ninja. When on menu in cubic ninja hold L+R and x and y it will delete old save then scan gateway qr code it's on the site. That will enter gateway menu. Then create emunand. But backup sd first. Or just use a fresh one.

Aaaah ok, i gotchu. Just to be sure so I don't screw up :)

1. Put gateway launcher on sd card. 3.3
2. Run cubic ninja.
3. When in menu, hold L+R and x and y it will delete old save
4. Scan gateway qr code on the site
5. Backup systemnand? (is that what you meant by "backup sd first"?)
6. Create emunand (that's booting into gateway mode and updating the fw right?)
7. then install reinand?

Yes backup system nand on n3ds you need at least 4gb sd card. I said backup sd but that's probably irrelevant if you have nothing on there that will be deleted. Creating emunand wipes sd card. After backing up system nand you need to take out sd card to copy to your pc. Because as I just said when you create emunand it deletes everything but the launcher.

Next step after that download pasta and put it on sd card inside folder named 3ds just read the opening page and it tells you exactly what to do. I don't want to run the whole process through with you incase of something going wrong and I'm to blame. But honestly read the front 1st page of the cfw and it will explain were to put the correct files and folders.

Great! And I'll update the fw once in "gateway mode" right? (GW3D 9.0[...])

You can't update emuNAND from system settings on n3DS, the max supported firmware is 9.5.
You can update by holding up on the D-Pad while entering Gateway mode, find the "Puzzle.and.Dragons.Z.plus.Puzzle.and.Dragons.Super.Mario.Bros.Edition.EUR.3DS-CONTRAST" ROM and try to launch it, it'll prompt for an update.

Exactly how how I did it. But he doesn't have gateway. Put that rom from the same region on your sky and update to 9.5

ugh, should I just buy gateway anyways?
If you want, but there's not much point. CFW alone can do anything GW can minus .3ds launching, and with a Sky that's possible as well, it should even work with eShop ROMs and homebrew when used from CFW.

He talked about launching GW mode, so I naturally assumed he had a GW :P

Yeah I not sure either about booting emunand then updating from sky. I've never tried it so avoid that. 9.0 is fine download free multi patcher for higher emunand support
it's backing up the systemnand now, i'll get back to you if i run into some issues. but seriously, thank you for taking the time to help me :yaynds:

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.

Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
