I'm intrigued about the games which Flashcards show up as on the [2|3]DS. My DSTWO shows up as "Alex Rider Stormbreaker THQ", and my R4i as "Touch! Bomberman Land Nintendo". Is there any particular reason why Flashcards show up as these games? Similarly, is there a reason why they can't be labelled with the name and logo of the Flashcard?

They disguise themselves as actual games in order not to be detected by the console. That's how it worked in the DS/DSi era anyway

AFAIK they never used popular games like Super Mario 64 DS so as they don't get into serious **** with Nintendo and always picked some crappy shovelware

http://hackmii.com/2010/02/lawsuit-coming-in-3-2-1/ if you want the technical underpinnings.

Popular or not did not really factor into it as much as having an overlay for a whitelist game load automatically very early in the boot process -- it is why some of the later kernels/games abused for it on some carts took a few seconds to boot and thus gave users the option to skip DSi/3ds compat and have a faster boot.

Fascinating read - thank you! I think I understood most of it (generally).
