Learning curve is that of one OS to another. If you've ever tried out Mac OSX before, it's roughly the same.

That said, that's entry level. Maintaining and adding features to Linux is far more difficult and frustrating than OSX/Windows, but that's the nature of the OS.

Is it sortve easy to get used to, coming from Windows 7?
It's most suited to those who like tinkering, tweaking settings and playing around with different packages to get it exactly the way they want it. But it's relatively easy to get used to.
If you do install Ubuntu it might be best to go with one of the alternate versions of it (Kubuntu/Xubuntu/Ubuntu GNOME) which come with another window manager by default.
It can't run Cheat Engine, Cheat Engine uses Windows API heavily, and is written in Delphi which itself is not cross platform. It also has a Windows-only driver (although the use of it is optional). There might be something similar to it though.

Thanks for all the info, and that sucks, I need cheat engine to do what I need to do. I'm gonna search for alternatives.

And can it run screencast o matic.com to record my screen?

Don't know about that software, but I've used software before to record my screen in Ubuntu, I believe it was called recordMyDesktop.
Cheat Engine might work in Wine I guess. But only on other apps running in Wine for obvious reasons.

Edit: Seems to work at least the basic functions of it, debugger does not work though. https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=2567

I just ordered the PC and have ubuntu on a disc. I have more questions.

Do I have to do a lot of command prompts to install stuff like Steam and google chrome?
I saw other stuff about
Code:
sudo apt-get install <app name>
I'm kinda confused. Do I need to download anything or not? Sites say you need an online PC, and a USB stick.. so can you run me through how to install an app like steam?[/code]

No, you can install most things through the Ubuntu Software Center or Synaptic Package Manager (the latter is the GUI equivalent of apt-get), some things have to be downloaded manually and installed similar to on Windows though.
I'm not sure if Steam is in either of those, but I doubt it, since it's proprietary software.

It's an installable package, I think you just double click it and it will open in the correct program.

Edit:
From the Ubuntu Wiki:
"
Installation
The Steam Client is available through the Ubuntu Software Center (USC). Run the USC, search for Steam, and install it or click here for a direct link to the USC.

Also, the latest version of the Steam Client is available directly from Valve. You only need that if the USC version does not install cleanly."

How Do I get Cheat Engine?
You can install Cheat engine using Wine. You can also install it using a PPA, but I do believe the PPA's are out of date for the Cheat Engine.

But the above people said it's heavily based on Windows and shit
Wine has come along way.
Also I noticed you mentioned Steam. You can actually get Steam, Skype, and several other bits of software like that through the 3rd Party Repo in the software sources.

if you are going for ubuntu, i would go for a distro that is based on ubuntu, i personally like elementary os, its good looking and its based on ubuntu, therefore every program that works on ubuntu works on elementary, and the command lines are the same as in ubuntu. I find elementary os easier to use than ubuntu due to the interface, its simply more straight forward than ubuntu, so you can try that, ill post the link to their site. https://elementary.io/ if you decide to go with this distro, you can pay what you want, if you want to not pay, simply go to custom and put $0.
as many have said, ubuntu can do pretty much many things you mentioned, you can even install official chrome if you want to or chromium which is based on the open source chrome project
