it came up as 95 wen i load the CFL_DB.dat into HxD, should i simply ignore this and move on or is this a genuine problem?

It's been established that the actual number of the bit doesn't matter, just change it regardless.

It is possible you can. You just need a tool that dumps and rewrites exdata for you (don't know if gateway has something like this i don't own GW)
If you have cubic ninja you can use exdata_dump as metioned in the OP (Why should the new 3ds xl exdata be diffenent that the one of the small one? The part we modify are miis they should be the same)

Or is the XL above 9.2?

Maybe Organiz3d would work (it has a .3ds file but i have not much experience with it it kept denying me acess to f000000b)
Or you just get cubic ninja from somewhere and use it for ninjhax.
Otherwise I don't know.

Yes. Tested it by streetpassing myself (forever alone XD)

Would work but I don't really know how. Checked the CTR_SDK_9.1.0 but it seems to be very tricky
I think we can do it somewhere in the extdata or inside the NAND.
But where exactly? Sadly I don't know :/

Thanks for this tutorial - I've been able to convert a few of my miis into Special miis.

I have been trying to do the reverse as well - to convert official Special miis into regular miis so that I can copy them/use them in the Streetpass plaza. Thanks to Conanac's post, I can find the correct hex offsets and change the values to turn the Special miis into regular miis, and I can also turn on sharing. However, copying is still disabled, so I can't copy and edit these miis.

Does anyone know how to find the offsets that turn on/off copying?

I have two Mii Characters in the Mii Plaza but the Hex File appears to only show one. I've repeated the process two times and the same thing happened (I'm on OLD3DS Firmware: 9.9.0-26U NinjHax2.0)
