I have an idea for a new 3DS hack. I might make it if I start learning how to make hacks for the 3DS, which I probably won't.
The 3DS hack will be called "Fanmade" if I make the hack. It will work like this:
How to install:
1. Insert SD card into PC
2. Go to site (www.(link).com (the link isn't valid.)) and download the fanmadeinstaller.exe file.
3. Open it
4. Run through the steps.
5. Exit program and take SD card out of PC
6. Insert the SD card into your 3DS
7. An app called "Fanmade" should appear on your screen. Click on it.
8. Enjoy

When you are using the Fanmade hack, you would have a few options: Install homebrew from SD card, change region, exit Fanmade hack.
Pressing "install homebrew from SD card" will open a file browser that will explore your SD card. You will be able to install any homebrew that you moved to the SD card.

Changing region will basically bypass region lock.

That is my idea.

Well then go to nintendo and ask kindly for the encryption keys :P
Otherwise this will probably be not possible (at least from my limited knowlage).
Also the NAND isn't stored on the sd card....

But it would be cool if it would be that simple and open to everyone ^^

we would need a way to get the encryption keys and install a .cia without using the 3ds itself
even if we had a way to install one, what would be the point; we would still need a kernel exploit

FANTASTIC idea!
but, how would the Fanmade app on the homemenu run when you don't have a ticket in the ticket.db?
apart from that, which i expect you will figure out how to get round, cool idea. we are all waiting for this! don't let us down!

edit -- i get it! you are planning to using an existing ticket in the db to let the application load, so the fanmadeinstaller.exe will spoof Fanmade app to be system menu (for example), and it will load with that ticket.
this idea is novel, you say you probably won't learn 3ds programming but for all of our benefit... please learn it!!!
i'm looking forward to the one click region changing.

I'm sure we all had "great" ideas as kids. No need to be mean. OP: there are many complicated steps involved in making a hack but your steps don't cover them. For example, if we were building an airplane, I can say: 1) make the wings and engine, 2) paint the plane, 3) put cushions on the seats. Although they are technically correct, they gloss over most of the important details.

BEST IDEA EVER!, hey, if you could, i would like you to create something even better, make that Fanmade able to go through out all the internal system of the 3DS, and run movies and music with it on your SD!, yeah, also, create a CFW that is updatable in any OFW, because you know, people don't have to buy it, and finally, make CIAs playable without installing, just putting them in the "Games" carpet, like the PSP!

Look, Alex, it's not that easy, the 3DS hacking is still in it's development stages, we don't have the definitive CFW yet, nor a method to do it as easily, probably, in some months or years it will be even easier than before, but at that point the new handheld console will be out, and everyone will pick the interest on that console as well, so, the 3DS hacking will not be perfect until some time passes, heck, even the PSP hacking, although it's 98% perfect, it still have some problems here and there, so, to make real the idea you're telling, you need to comprise all the system files, combine sysnand & emunand into a single being, and launch it as a program that can go through between those two, and also, have a program that can edit, program, and modify all the system values to run a more or less stable CFW, which means, you need to program something that takes a whole lot of time, and maybe, that process will not be the same if you want to update to another CFW, like, if i want to install a CFW 1.5 to 2.0, to create something easier as "updater" for that, it would take probably even more time than creating an "installer" to that thing, although your idea seems more something out of a fairy tail (At least in this stage of piracy development for the 3DS), it's still possible, but if you take an interest on 3DS hacks and make that CFW, probably someone else will do the same even earlier, so, instead of suggesting ideas that will not be released or created by yourself, just don't post this kind of threads, you lose credibility as a user, and we have enough of that kind of people, like those who created Crown 3DS that were saying "No, we will make it, it will be the first flashcard that will run 3DS games" and i called that fuckin bullshit, and i still call that fuckin bullshit, so, don't embarass yourself and do something else than posting threads on Gbatemp with that kind of initiative.
