Hello!
I was wondering, If I get a New3DSXL, and a Gateway 3ds card, do I, or do I not have to also get OOT or CN? I was told I do, but all the tutorials I see online say nothing of it. If you do, could someone link me a tutorial that uses it? Thanks.

You need a compatible OoT cart (not all can be used for the exploit) or a copy of CN. If you have a sky3DS you can also use that plus a rom of one of those game to launch the Gateway menu on your 9.2 or below N3DS

If you get a New3DS XL, it is possible your firmware will be above 9.2.
If your firmware is above 9.2, Gateway is useless, end of story, buy a Sky3DS.
In case your firmware is below or equal to 9.2:
YES YOU NEED EITHER OOT OR CN

For more info, read the goddamn forum, it has been said one thousand times.
Please understand.

PS: And if you go the OOT route, you also need some method or device to write a savefile into it.

yes. you need a copy of OOT OR CN to install the exploit (only one is needed, and not all copies of OOT work)
and like jao chu said, if you have a sky3ds card, you can use it instead of OOT\CN

If New3DSXL firmware is below 9.2 get Cubic Ninja and Gateway 3DS. Best bet.

Have a Sky3DS? Just use the Sky3DS to run Cubic Ninja for Gateway 3DS.

Have New3DSXL with firmware above 9.2? Sky3DS is only option. Sorry. No sysNAND backup. No ROM dumping.

Might want a Powersaves Pro 3DS so you can get private headers to play Sky3DS online.

What's a sysNAND backup? and what is ROM dumping? do I need it? I only want to play games... with cheats.

SysNand backup is a backup of your console. If you brick your console then you can flash it back.

Rom dumping lets you extract the rom file from an actual cartridge

Only MT-card supports cheats and it's a clone of gateway.

Nah man, you don't need it.

A sysNAND backup is a backup of your 3DS operating system that you can use to restore it in case it breaks. Good to have.
ROM dumping means copying the data from a retail game into a file that can be copied onto a flash cart.

Gateway 3DS and Cubic Ninja.

You don't NEED sysNAND backup or ROM dumping. But they come really handy.

Cheats? Sky3DS ONLY plays ROMs. It does not cheat.

If you want a robust cheat system, Gateway + CN.

If you JUST want to play 3DS games, Sky3DS.

Again, depends on your firmware if you can even use Gateway. Sky3DS does not matter.

So you can buy the Hummer (Gateway), or a Porsche (Sky3DS). Hummer does everything and more but is big and hard to get working. Porsche just goes fast and gets you there and doesn't require much maintenance.

Price doesn't matter. To run Gateway you'll need Cubic Ninja which equals about the same price for a Sky3DS.

Problem is, Sky3DS can't play online unless you own a Powersaves Pro Dongle to get private headers. Or else Nintendo will Ban Hammer you.

Is it possible to play Gateway3DS online? and does it also need that private header?

Rename the .3ds file to .3dz. They need a private header this way

Or install the game as cia iles and they will use your consoles private header.

Playing online with Gateway 3DS is much easier. Use the .CIA versions and you don't have to worry about headers or bans at all.

First you need to know your firmare.

On your 3DS go to SETTINGS.

When the wrench appears on the top screen, look in the bottom right corner. Tell us what you see.

Should be something like:

9.2.0-22U

If it is 9.3 or 9.4 or 9.5 or 9.6 you can ONLY use a Sky3DS.

Are you using an Old (no c-stick) 3DSXL or New (c-stick) 3DSXL?
