translation = if you pirated it you can't go online.

if you dump your own copy you're golden

speculation and not proven.
my own dumps, and then downloaded cias, and I'm not banned.
So it might be, but not proven still :/

to be honest,

I don't expect them to make an official statement.

It is probably along the lines of "use of external non-nintendo software and hardware is not recommended".

If they were to let people know what is the criteria, people will simply bypass it.

This may be mean, but we won't be able to discern the pattern (and possibly counter measures) until a big enough group of people get 'banned',
including users with nand hard mods and possibly devs.

For starters, people who got banned should share the headers they used,
and people who got balls the technological expertize can try to replicate the results™ then try to fix the problem.

Can't fix a problem without knowing what is the root of the problem.

and piracy isn't the root. move on haters.

also once they see you're using fudged headers and ban your NNID. Changing headers will get you nothing. Your entire account is already boned
Yes but I'm using my header from one of my games. Unless they can tell it did not come from that game, I think it's fairly safe. It will be 100% unique, and no one else will have it.

so you're NOT using the original header for that game but you are using another original header from another legally dumped game?

Exactly as he said, public headers are just that, from the public which probably a couple hundred people are using.

so he's stating that ....you can use a personal header from ONE legally dumped game...and apply it to all your ROMS (don't share it) and you're fine?

it's the one using public headers and Nintendo is noticing a trend

nobody knows, it could be nothing to do with headers.....its still not even clear if its anything to do with flashcards or headers

Yep. The headers don't match but the patcher for gateway fixes them for something or another to work. Not sure really. I just know I dumped my own game header and have been using it with online games just fine. In fact I have used a sapphire rom on my gateway to do bank transfers between Pokemon ruby (legal copy) and my PC. If anything these bans are new to 9.5 firmware.

first few pages some dude said 9.4 right?
it could be that they rolled a server update.
our 3ds could have been sending the information all this while, just that they never captured it or something..

One guy gets banned for an unknown reason
no one else has reported an issue
the sky is falling

Sounds familiar...

I'm not seeing any real confirmation that this is the cause of the ban.. Too few cases for anything to be certain.

That's true. I played MH4G for a week straight and over 2 weeks later still fine. The difference? I used my own header. I'm also not behind a VPN but I highly doubt that makes a difference.

Does changing a header have any effect on your save files?

No.

No.
yes it does, if you change headers your saves will become corrupt, but there is a guide for exporting them and re-importing them using savedatafiler

I changed my header and it was fine. The only time it seemed to be an issue was Pokemon which is type 2.

Can't I just download one of these headers here and apply it to all my 3DS games and I'll be good to go?
No. It's a public header and a bad move. Go to gamestop and find the cheapest used 3DS game possible. You can dump the rom and extract the header. If possible use an online game header. I doubt it matters but I used a header from an online game just because I felt it made more sense.

1 or 2 cases. I'm not sure if the user on maxconsole is the same member on here. So, to me, its still better to be on the safe side of things by getting your won headers and not share them. But some people think it might be a waste of money to buy a card that uses online play then just go ahead and continue using the public headers.

Where's the instructions on how to dump your own header here?

depends on the game, not sure if it was 2.x encryption or 6.x save encryption that tied the save to the cart....pretty sure it was 2.x though which means 90% of games have the save tied to the header used

...and that's fine. Play it safe. I just don't want people stating that it is the cause of the ban. Nothing has been proven yet. I'll just keep playing with public headers and see what happens. There were a few cases reported on the baidu forums, as well.. but, again.. It's too isolated for it be fact.

Worst case scenario? I buy the NA N3DS XL...
