depends on the game, not sure if it was 2.x encryption or 6.x save encryption that tied the save to the cart....pretty sure it was 2.x though which means 90% of games have the save tied to the header used
Yea to be honest I don't remember what game but I think it was one of the older ones I picked up too. Friend told me to get rid of the public header after I started just for safety.

Well my bad then, your save will be lost I guess.

oh don't worry there's so much info floating about its kinda hard to keep track of it all, but there is always the save data filer method you can follow for all your online games should people be deciding to switch to personal headers
And also, can I use just one of my headers across all my 3DS ROMS?
you can, but again with no definitive proof on the cause of these suspected bans, there is no 100% safe method other than updating and only playing legit carts in sysnand....or just staying offline

again im still skeptical this is anything to do with flashcards or headers, or i imagine it would of hit virtually all sky3ds users considering like 99% of them are just using the default headers included in the template file....that would be some easy pre-made ban list for nintendo to download and block.....with the really small amount of people affected i wouldn't be surprised if it was probably just some policy change to ban people who have been using offensive language in games or something like that

What even constitutes as an online game? A game with a multiplayer aspect? That one should be obvious. What about games that access the eShop to check for DLC?

Ok, so I can stay offline in emuNAND right?

And can you find a guide on how to dump your own headers? I'm really confused

Anything with online multiplayer. I doubt the eShop checks for more than the game ID when downloading DLC or anything.

well iirc from before gateway had online access games that access the eshop also triggered the "this card cannot be used online" message if you tried to go to the eshop from within the rom.....but im not to certain...but you could always just get the DLC from the eshop without going via the option in game

yeah if you want you can just switch wifi off, here is a guide for getting your own header
https://gbatemp.net/threads/scene-roms-online-tutorial-for-dummies.370589/

but basically rip your own game and extract the header, then use that header for injecting into your other games with the patcher tool to automatically fix it for each games setup

Is there a certain answer for the "This card cannot be used"? Like was the gateway not representing it properly? Because now it can even be used with pokebank. This to me says the gateway shows the ID of the game properly and masks itself as a real cart now. So if the bans were because of that I wouldn't have been able to update my sapphire via US eshop.

yeah basically the header (unique card info) was not being used, the header info is what used to ID the card when accessing online, if its missing it wont allow you to use online services....you will get the same message if you just put in a bunch of random info as the cartID, basically its like a whitelist, nintnedo knows what cartID's have been issued, and only cards with a proper cartID can access online services

Has anyone actually managed to verify via traffic analisys or firmware reverse engineering that the console is indeed sending the header ID through the network? It could just as well serve the sole(and proven) purpose of uniquely encrypting saves to prevent cross-cart save cloning, and the system error when going online could just be that the console expects to find the header during a check it performs then, and doesn't.

That would mean the header patcher completely fixes the header to reflect the game thus making it think it matches it. If that is the case then a unique header is all you need. Because even Pokebank works now with X/Y or ORAS in the gateway as selected game.

No, you will still need a 4GB header to work on a 4GB rom or below, its always been this way but of course you cannot use a 1GB header from say MK7 and use it on a 4GB game like Resi Evil Revelations. Are you sure your using your Harvest Moon header on all roms? it could not be possible because for start it would not work with any rom above 512MB and also definitely would not work with any card 2 games such as Pokemon X/Y because the values need editing with Hexeditor!. I don't know what 3DS Rom Editor does but its always been this way for .3dz conversion, trust me on this one I've been at it since day 1, when online became possible.

Strange. Yes, I'm absolutely sure - Harvest Moon: A New Beginning is the only game I ever dumped and its header works fine for Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Super Smash Bros., Animal Crossing, Mario Kart 7, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D and any other game I tried. That's why I assumed looking for cart sizes is a thing of the early GW days.

cart size doesnt matter....ALL of the unique ID setting can be auto corrected except manufacturer ID......cart size/save type can be changed to match whatever you throw at it

i assume your using the gateway rom patcher, that simply checks the game size and save type and automatically fixes those values to match the target game, so you dont need to hex edit it manually

Which brings up the question....lets say my game already has a header...will Sky's software try to add its own header? - Is there a way to stop it?

ok once you trigger the exploit hold the L button to load up the menu look arond as one of the icons will say dump rom. Go ahead and try that...note it does take 10min or more depends on the game.
