After I downgrade can I use my R4i 3ds flashcart to install cfw and play backups by installing them through the CIA method or whatever it's called. I don't have any GW cards. Not really familiar with how the 3ds modding works.

You cant install cia's without gateway or mt card
As far as regular roms assuming you have the gold deluxe then they will work fine

If it plays regular ds games then its a normal r4i gold, cannot play 3ds roms so you will have to purchase a gateway or wait for the dstwo+ to be released

Interesting stuff. I see people saying the Euro downgrade gets you 4.5.0-8E - I'm half tempted to try it as my sysnand is currently 4.5.0-0E (no eshop, browser won't run "until you update online"). 4.5.0-8E would presumably let me run Ninjhax, which could be handy as then I can update my emunand past 9.2 without losing the possibility of running ninjhax homebrew, and should also let me use Gateway's new browser exploit, which, uh, wouldn't have any immediately obvious advantages over the good ol' ds exploit, but hey, options are nice.

I'm guessing using the downgrade or sysnand-restoring features of GW would give the sysnand a new id, unlinking it from the emunand in the same way that formatting it would? Can anyone confirm?

Because the method for using Gateway for 5.0-9.2 requires you to have an active internet connection (or substitute). So you use that to downgrade, then you can just use the gateway normally without having to be on the internet.

From what I read it even works on consoles that shipped with >4.X (With the obvious exception of the 2DS and N3DS)

at this point 2ds downgrade is useless even if it was possible

I have a nand mod and will test this out soon. So you can only downgrade with a backed up nand? Not like turn a 9.2 into a 4.5?

You don't need a backup NAND from 4.5. The .dg packages from their website will put you back to 4.2-4.5 depending on your region.

Hello guys I have a 3ds xl Yoshi Edition just bought a few days
The firmware out of box is 6.2.0.E my 3ds xl never had 4.5.0 firmware can also downgrade my 3ds or downgrade is possible ONLY with 3ds xl who were natives with fw 4.5.0 and later updated to 6.2.0 or above ???

Don't forget to have a backup of your NAND in case something goes wrong so you can reflash with a nand mod later. Just in case.

I believe there is a key combo you can hold when launching the 'cart' which will let gateway mode run a cart update via emunand

Hold dpad-up when booting gateway mode. I used it int he past to update my emunand to 9.something via a rom. Keep in mind that if you have performed some sort of trimming operation on the rom, it probably won't have the system update available.
