Just successfully downgraded my Smash Bros 3DS XL. Seems pretty safe to do really.
Yeah they just have to be cautious about it because maybe 1 out of every 100 3DS consoles they tested bricked during downgrade or something. Thus they consider it only 100% safe for people with a NAND mod for the time being.

So does this work only on consoles that have had 4.5 firmware on them at some point.. ? I've got a metallic red 3DS and a New 3DS Ambassador console. Pretty sure my red one had 4.something on it at some point. Has anyone managed to downgrade a newer console that hasn't been anywhere near 4.5 before.. ?

And 4.5 allows you to use your Gateway flashcart without the need for the browser exploit, right.. ? So if/when Nintendo update the browser in a future update to fix the exploit we should all still be able to use our Gateway flashcarts..?

Or have I got that all wrong or mixed up..?

After I downgrade can I use my R4i 3ds flashcart to install cfw and play backups by installing them through the CIA method or whatever it's called. I don't have any GW cards. Not really familiar with how the 3ds modding works.

From what I read it even works on consoles that shipped with >4.X (With the obvious exception of the 2DS and N3DS)

i used to go out to the recycling center every couple weeks and look at the crts and other electronics people would drop off. Usually screens were broken or severely scratched from being tossed around. Did find a good one here and there, but never anything like a 1080i widescreen crt.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
